ACM Awards 2020: Eric Church robbed off of Entertainer of the Year again, fans call show a 'joke'

Eric Church competed in two categories but unfortunately could not take an award home this time

Eric Church is one of the biggest names in the country music scene who also enjoys a massive fan following around the world. So, when an artiste like him takes over the stage at the 2020 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, people are bound to go gaga over him.

The singer-songwriter performed his global hit single ‘Stick That In Your Country Song’ from the Grand Ole Opry House. The official account of ACM Awards also tweeted about Church's performance. They posted, “#TheChief is here! Smiling face with sunglasses @ericchurch  #ACMawards."

Church looked dapper in his trendy avatar. He was also prepped with a mask on the red carpet of the awards show due to the ongoing pandemic. The talented vocalist had scooped two nominations at the coveted award show. He competed in the Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year categories but unfortunately could not take an award home this time.

The big award was tied between Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett. A lot of fans then took to Twitter to share their disappointment and anger.

While sharing the artiste’s performance video, one fan tweeted, "Eric KILLED IT TONIGHT #acm @ericchurch  #BlackJoy." One user tweeted how Church got robbed off the Entertainment of the Year award. "You right. He could travel across the country for years to come and will sell out arenas and stadiums every time. Fans like us will always know who the Entertainer of The Year is."

One user shared, "Just do nothing all year and you will win chief!!!! @ericchurch ACM and CMA are bullshit just a joke man. #ACMawards  #CMAawards," while another added, "It blows my mind how @ericchurch hasn’t won an entertainer of the year yet. U screwed up last year by giving it2Garth&then you blow it again this year. There's not a guy who works harder&gives his fans everything he’s got every night..the passion he has should be rewarded! #Chief."

One user stated, "Eric Church performed an honest to goodness, angry, American protest song at an awards show. It challenges so many things that the target audience may not realize." Another user said, "@ericchurch Your performance tonight was the best I have seen yet besides seeing you live!  You are constantly overlooked and so deserving of more than they give credit for! You are my Entertainer of the year!  Every song you sing, I feel your emotions!  Chief On!"

Another added, "@CountryMusic Thomas Rhett? Are you kidding me? Have you ever been to an Eric Church concert. This is a garbage joke. No Thomas Rhett, you're not half entertainer of the year. You suck and so does the cmas. Will never watch again."

The ACM Awards 2020 also saw country music legend Keith Urban taking over as the host for the evening for the very first time. The award show did not include a live audience but featured a star-studded line-up of performers to make sure there is no dull moment.

The renowned award show witnessed an impressive line-up of performances from artistes like Miranda Lambert, Gabby Barrett, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Dick, Tim McGraw Riley Green, Blake Shelton with Gwen Stefani, Maren Morris, Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen among others. The ACM Awards 2020 were broadcasted live from 8 pm to 11 pm on CBS Television Network and streamed on-demand on CBS All Access.
