Emmys 2019: Why Julia Louis-Dreyfus starrer ‘Veep’ deserves a big win at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards

A win at Emmys 2019 means that the talented actress will secure the coveted title of the most-awarded performer of all time
UPDATED SEP 9, 2019

HBO’s hit political comedy show ‘Veep’ has always been an Emmy favorite. Since its pilot in 2012, the show has received a whopping fifty-nine nominations as of 2017. The Julia Louis-Dreyfus starrer has managed to bag seventeen awards of its fifty-nine nominations.
‘Veep’ is a political satire show which follows an ambitious Selina Meyer, who hates being stuck in the rut of being the vice-president or “veep” of the USA. She aspires to become the president and the series follows the adventures of Ms. Meyers as she navigates the messy world of politics to become the president. Season 7 which aired between March-May 2019 marked the final season of the hit show.

In season 7, we saw former President Selina Meyer (Julia Dreyfus) running from pillar to post to secure a nomination from her party to run for the presidential race. She also finally gets to take down her nemesis - Tom James (played by the talented Hugh Laurie), and makes her faithful longtime assistant Gary (played by Tony Hale) her scapegoat for the Meyer Fund Scandal which the FBI is investigating. The season finale episode titled ‘Veep’ was appreciated by critics and fans alike for the perfect ending.

The Primetime Emmy Award is an annual award show hosted by members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, recognizing outstanding achievements in American prime time television programming. Here is why we strongly feel that ‘Veep’ should win big this year.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been touted as the Emmy favorite, after winning the Outstanding Lead Actress for her role for six consecutive years. Julia is currently tied with Television legend Cloris Leachman as the performer with the most primetime acting wins (with eight each). Julia has earned six Emmys for ‘Veep’, one for ‘The New Adventures of Old Christine’ and one for her role in ‘Seinfeld.' In addition to that achievement, Julia has also been recognized for her behind the scenes contribution by winning three Emmys for her producing the best comedy series, ‘Veep’.

Actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus, winner of the award for Outstanding Comedy Actress for 'Veep,' poses in the press room during the 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater on September 17, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.

A win this year for Julia means that the talented actress will secure the coveted title of Emmys’ most-awarded performer of all time. If she manages to bag the award for outstanding comedy actress, then Julia will be creating history by winning it for seven consecutive nominations!

Although ‘Veep’ has very strong contenders with shows like ‘The Marvelous Mrs Maisel’ and ‘Fleabag’ putting in a strong competition, fans are confident that ‘Veep’ might be able to make a clean sweep one last time.
