‘Emergence’ Episode 9: Will ABC’s thriller-mystery end with a mighty roar or whimper?
ABC’s thriller-mystery ‘Emergence’ will be going off-air soon and we are waiting with bated breath to witness how the ongoing drama dealing with the police chief’s struggle to save an AI is going to unfold!
Despite a few hiccups here and there, throughout eight episodes, ‘Emergence’ managed to entertain us by retaining the mystery factor. Whether it has worked in favor of the show or against is subject to fair debate. However, we are eagerly waiting to see if the last episode ‘Where You Belong’ can tie up loose ends and give it the closure it deserves, considering the buzz it has created among the fans.
The crux of the show is Jo’s fight against the evil forces who are doing everything in their power to get hold of Piper. Having said that, there have been several instances in the series that have caused immense disappointment, purely due to the creators’ effort in focusing more on writing off the characters, sidelining some of the important elements.
Despite gaining the reputation of being one of the most intellectual shows on television, it has committed glitches that could have been avoided. For instance, in the previous episode, when Piper tells Alex that she wants to re-visit her home, the latter quickly agrees to drive her down in the absence of Jo’s knowledge. What was he thinking? This is the point at which the show’s absurdity began to reflect.
Moreover, the creators made a fool of Jo by introducing a bigger threat, something she was totally unprepared for, as all along she was driven by her determination to capture Emily, ignoring anything beyond her power.
But we can’t overlook the fact that Piper is an AI, who is capable of re-writing her own codes and making the car topple with her hidden powers. Although we have treated the AI’s vulnerable circumstances with empathy, we might, at last, get to see her true powers, is she stands defiant against the ultimate villain.
Seems like we need to wait until ‘Where You Belong’ airs to draw a fair conclusion about ‘Emergence’.
