'She wakes us up pretty early': 'Lord Of The Rings' star Elijah Wood reveals he secretly welcomed second child with Mette-Marie in 2021
AUSTIN, TEXAS: Elijah Wood, known for his role in 'The Lord of the Rings,' recently announced that he and his partner, Danish film producer Mette-Marie Kongsved, welcomed their second child, a daughter, in late 2021. The 42-year-old actor confirmed the news to WSJ Magazine saying, " [We have a] three-year-old son [Evan] and a 14-month-old daughter and she wakes us up pretty early. I like getting up early, I like starting the day."
The couple also has a son named Evan whom they quietly welcomed in 2019. Wood revealed in February 2020 that he and Kongsved found out they were going to be parents on Christmas Eve 2018. He said, "I haven't had a cigarette since then...And that night, I found out we were pregnant. On Christmas Eve." In the interview, Wood expressed his love for being a hands-on father, involving himself in activities such as sleep training and packing school lunches for his children.

Wood and Mette-Marie met on the sets
Wood and Mette-Marie Kongsved have been keeping their personal lives out of the public eye. The couple met on the set of Netflix's 'Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore,' which Kongsved produced and Wood starred in. Despite being in the public eye, Wood maintains a private Instagram account and has no plans to create a public one. "An account that’s public-facing would really change what I share," he explained in an interview with WSJ Magazine. "It’s not like I’m sharing anything that I wouldn’t want to go out, but I’m a relatively private person."
Although he prefers to keep his personal life private, the 'Sin City' star is more than willing to open up about his enduring bond with former co-stars Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd. The four actors, who portrayed hobbits Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy, maintain a strong connection to this day, nearly two decades after the release of 'The Return of the King'.
Wood's upcoming projects
Elijah Wood has been busy promoting his recurring role in the second season of the time-hopping drama 'Yellowjackets,' where he reunited with his former 'Ice Storm' co-star Christina Ricci. The show airs Sundays on Showtime and sees him playing Walter, a citizen detective who becomes a love interest to Ricci's ruthless nurse character Misty Quigley. Aside from 'Yellowjackets,' Wood is set to star in Jiahuang Peng and Peng Chen's upcoming video-gaming drama 'LA Rush.' He will also be featured in Macon Blair's upcoming remake of 'The Toxic Avenger.' With these exciting new projects on the horizon, fans of the versatile actor have a lot to look forward to.
