LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The allegation that Leonardo DiCaprio is an "eco-hypocrite" first surfaced in 2016. The allegations seem to have a grounding in fact as the ‘Titanic’ actor has once again shown himself to be a bit of a green-hypocrite by attending a green fashion event in LA after accruing 12 thousand air miles in only two weeks, while enjoying nights out with many models, probably pursuing them.

The actor, 48, posed with pioneers in environmental activism and sustainable fashion on March 9 at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards. But it comes after he traveled more than 10 thousand miles in only two weeks between the US and  European cities in Milan and Paris.

What happened back in 2016?

Back in 2016, several news reports were pointing at Leo being a pseudo climate activist. DiCaprio accepted an environmental award in New York City in the month of May, but he hypocritically increased his carbon footprint by 8,000 miles to get there. How? He reportedly used a private aircraft from Cannes and then flew straight back to France on another plane for a models-filled charity event the next night.

The accusations against him began to surface once Leonardo eventually won the Oscars for Best Actor for the film ‘The Revenant’. Back then, at his Oscar acceptance speech he declared, "Climate change is real. The greatest urgent threat to our entire species is currently taking place”. The World Economic Forum in 2016 saw a $15 million donation to environmental causes from Leonardo’s organization.

However, even back then Leo came under fire for using yachts and private planes. Fans learned about DiCaprio's most recent travels from environmental expert Robert Rapier, who claimed that the actor's movie-star lifestyle diminishes his moral authority to lecture others on decreasing their own carbon footprints.

Is Leonardo a pseudo activist?

Leonardo seems to have made headlines for being a lot of things, one among them being an eco-hypocrite. He looked sharp as he made a rare stop for photos at the awards ceremony this week, which was hosted at the Neuehouse Hollywood. He grinned in the winners room alongside Sonia Guajajara, Brazil's Minister of Indigenous Peoples, while sporting a dapper blue suit for the occasion.

The ‘Shutter Island’ star was happy to stand next to Sonia for some photos despite his customary inclination to avoid the photographers. The occasion honors individuals in the fashion and entertainment industries who have actively promoted cultural transformation. Leonardo has been a vocal supporter of environmental causes for a large portion of his career, yet his lavish lifestyle isn't exactly very eco conscious.

Paparazzis have snapped the actor,  famous for ‘dates-only-25-year-olds’, on various occasions with several models, including Gigi Hadid, Maya Jama, and most recently Rose Bertram. Leonardo was last photographed in Paris over the weekend. He then travelled the 5,642 miles back to Los Angeles, making his first public appearance since his homecoming by attending the Green Carpet Fashion Awards.
