'Colorist' Ebro Darden flayed for calling Tinashe ‘light-skinned with ghetto-a** name’

In a 2013 interview, Ebro dubbed Tinashe’s surname as a 'ghetto-a** name' after she revealed that her full name was Tinashe Kachingwe

Radio host Ebro Darden grabbed one of the top trending spots on social media over the weekend after he got slammed as a colorist and ignorant for asking singer Tinashe’s last name in an interview from 2013. The old interview resurfaced on Twitter where he commented on Tinashe’s last name. The short clip also features co-host Peter Rosenberg where he tried to make some sense during the conversation.
 
Ebro Darden later took to Twitter to apologize for the old interview as he dubbed it as a “terrible joke” adding that he was being “dumb on purpose.” In the 2013 interview, the 46-year-old radio personality dubbed Tinashe’s surname as a “ghetto-a** name” after she revealed that her full name was Tinashe Kachingwe. The 28-year-old singer later explained in the video that her surname was Zimbabwean after the Hot 97 host tagged it as a Nigerian name. Tinashe merely smiles at Ebro in the clip that soon went viral as social media users brutally dragged the New York-based radio host for his disparaging remarks.

Ebro Darden apologizes for old interview with Tinashe

In the 2013 video, Ebro says, “Now, can we point out how light-skinned she is with a ghetto-a** name, though?” after Tinashe reveals her full name during the interview. Rosenberg then interrupts while shutting down Ebro’s joke, “It’s not a ghetto name. It’s an African name.” Ebro then hits back adding, “Yeah, but sometimes these ghetto names are actually African.

Soon, after facing heat for the old interview, Ebro while reverting to a user apologized for his distasteful comments. “Yea this was a terrible joke, we were using the name skit for people to learn her origins… love Tinashe thats my homey still.” In another post, he added, “Yea I was being dumb on purpose… stupid.”  Ebro Darden was also in news when rapper Saweetie had claimed in March 2021 that she had PTSD after her sit-down interview with him as he dubbed her freestyle as “basic” adding that she needed to do more to impress him. Saweetie had then said that it was a really dark point in her life.

‘Ebro must be a synonym for colorist clown’

Taking to Twitter, one user said, “Ebro’s a colorist dumba**. Peter Rosenberg is wayward too but at least he made some sense with Tinashe”, as another mentioned, “Bruh…. Ebro is such a damn colorist! I just can’t believe he made fun of Tinashe’s last name. What’s even crazy is that Rosenberg is the only one that REALLY made sense. I hope he gets canceled for this.” Another stated, “Ebro has a Long History of being Colorist & Disrespectful to black women. He claims it was a joke? Just stop!”
 
The next one posted, “Just want to point out that Ebro has a white mother and a black father. And this is relevant bc look how culturally insensitive and colorist he is. You are what your mother is. I keep telling y’all.” One user stated, “Ebro is a dumb@**, we know this. You see men with a microphone we all know where that road is going, they’re all colorist, ignorant.”  Another user tweeted, “Literally Ebro associates dark skin with the ghetto. He’s an Anti-black colorist araehole.” Meanwhile, one asserted, “F**k Ebro and his colorist self ghetto means dark skin to him”.  Another concluded, “Ebro must be a synonym for colorist clown.”
