Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock is now an actor but he was also once a former professional wrestler. Born on May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California, he comes from a wrestling family, as his late father Rocky Johnson was also a former professional wrestler, and his grandfather too, was one. Along with his family, Dwayne moved from New Zealand to Connecticut, to Honolulu, to Hawaii, and then to Nashville, Tennessee when he was in high school. From there, Johnson went on to play football at the prestigious University of Miami on a full scholarship, even winning the national championship in 1991 as part of the Hurricane team. Although NFL was the goal, he had an injury that caused a setback when it came to the sport.

While he did play in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampeders, he was cut early and then moved on to follow his father and his grandfather into the world of wrestling. Johnson debuted with the ring name Rocky Maivia – he had put his father and his grandfather's ring names together for the moniker. However, it was not until 1997 that Johnson was dubbed The Rock. He was part of the WWE from 1996-2004 and a nine-time world heavyweight champion for the franchise. After writing his biography 'The Rock says' in 2000, The Rock debuted his acting career, opening even larger doors to his future in 2001. By 2004, he was acting full time. His first leading tole came in 2002 with 'The Scorpion King' and other productions followed - such as 'Walking Tall', 'Be Cool', 'The Game Plan', 'The Other Guys', 'The Fast and Furious' franchise, 'Central Intelligence', HBO's 'Ballers' among many others. The Rock has been part of the industry a while now, and with many accolades under his belt, he's garnered up quite a hefty sum of cash.

In December 2009, Johnson's net worth stood at $30 million and went past $50 million in just a year and a half. In fact, in September 2012, he was named the "richest wrestler" in the world with a net worth of $75 million by Celebrity Net Worth. Of course, the numbers went higher as the years passed – in 2015 his net worth was at $160 million, in 2018 it was $280 million, and by 2019 he was at $320 million. As per Celebrity Net Worth, The Rock is now worth a whopping $400 million.

While it isn't hard to comprehend how his net worth is that large a sum, let's run through how The Rock made it to his millions over the years. All the following stats are from Celebrity Net Worth. 'The Scorpion King' (2001) earned the actor $5.5 million, and the movie earning $165 million, which is impressive considering the budget was at $60 million. According to the publication, The Rock's check from the movie was the "largest paycheck ever paid to a first-time actor in a leading role." 'The Rundown' (2003) earned the actor $12.5 million, and 'Walking Tall' (2004) earned him $15 million.

Over the years, his salaries have skyrocketed. In 2013, he earned $43 million, in 2015 he earned $65 million, and between June 2017 and June 2018, he became the highest-paid actor on the planet with his earnings hitting $125 million. The publication also reveals that due to his high following on social media, the actor "contractually demands as much as" $4 million to promote his own movies. Even the 'Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw' film earned him $20 million in 2019, with his fellow actors Jason Statham earning $13 million and Idris Elba warning only $8 million.

Being part of the industry for so long, The Rock has also had business indevours. In the year 2012, he and his ex-wife Dany Garcia started the company called Seven Bucks Productions. Celebrity Net Worth revealed that the company's teams are involved "in every decision from script screening to movie marketing" when it comes to The Rock appearing in any movie. Under the Seven Bucks umbrella, there are a few notable productions such as 'Shazam!', 'Baywatch', 'Skyscraper' and 'Jumanji'. The actor and author had endorsements with Apple and Ford, among other things. In the year 2006, he also founded the Dwayne Johnson Foundation which helps children who are terminally ill. He even donated $1 million to his alumni University of Miami to help the renovation of the university football facility. In that response, the university even named a locked room in The Rock's honor.

As for real estate, the money seems to be flowing well - just recently in November 2019, Johnson bought a 46-acre equestrian estate for $9.5 million cash in Powder Springs, Georgia. The estate is 15,000 square-foot featuring 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. But after 14 months, the actor listed the property for just $7.5 million. Before that, he had a home near Fort Lauderdale, but he sole that in 2019 for $4.5 million.
