Robert Grossman: Doctor who examined John F Kennedy after assassination dead at 88
Famous neurosurgeon, Dr Robert Grossman, who examined assassinated president John F Kennedy has died. He was 88 years old. The cause of his death is not known at the moment. The Houston Methodist Hospital announced Dr Grossman's death on Thursday, October 7. Dr Grossman joined Houston Methodist in 1980 and was stationed at Houston Methodist until his death.
"Today, we honor Dr Robert Grossman, one of the most respected physicians in our hospital’s history. He treated thousands of patients & co-authored over 200 articles. He will be remembered for his deep devotion to this hospital, to his patients, to his students & to his field, " a statement by the hospital read. Houston Methodist President and CEO Dr Marc L Boom also paid tribute to Dr Grossman and said, "He trained hundreds of students during his career - two per cent of neurosurgeons in the United States, in fact. Beyond his students, Dr Grossman always had time to mentor others. He was famous for sharing his 'pearls of wisdom,' which made a lasting impression on the youngest student and the most seasoned surgeon."

Dr Grossman, who was a 30-year-old neurosurgery resident at Parkland Hospital in Dallas then, was one of the physicians who examined president John F Kennedy after he was assassinated in Dallas on November 22 in 1963. He was called upon to examine the severe head wound sustained by president Kennedy moments after he was shot downtown. The account of what he saw that day is detailed in his book, 'Where Were You? America Remembers the JFK Assassination'. In the book, he wrote, "The phone rang, and someone said to me, 'Come to the emergency room. President's been shot. We thought it was a prank." Dr Grossman had also examined Lee Harvey Oswald, the man believed to have gunned down Kennedy. "I examined him … I don't think Oswald could have been saved," Dr Grossman wrote.
