British indie rock band Doves are back after a hiatus of 11 years. The band, which announced their upcoming album 'The Universal Want' back in July, are gearing up for the release of their first material since 2009.

Doves previously released four albums titled 'The Last Soul', 'The Last Broadcast', 'Some Cities' and 'Kingdom of Rust' between the years 2000 to 2009. Two of these albums, 'The Last Broadcast' and 'Some Cities', topped the UK album chart whereas their last three albums have all charted on the Billboard 200.

Doves released three singles, 'Carousels', 'Prisoners' and 'Cathedrals of the Mind' in support of their upcoming album 'The Universal Want'. Announcing their first new music in 11 years, the band tweeted, "Carousels — our first new music in eleven years is out now. A reminiscence of times we'd go to places like North Wales on holiday as kids. Places where you had your first experience of sound systems and music being played really loud."

Similarly, explaining the meaning behind 'Prisoners', the band tweeted, "Prisoners — the first single from our forthcoming new album is out now. It's about continually chasing something and not being satisfied when you get it. You’ve got ‘that thing’ and you find you’re not any happier. Be careful what you wish for."

Release date

Scheduled to release on September 11, 'The Universal Want' has been produced by the band themselves and Dan Austin. The album is going to be 47:03 minutes in length with 10 tracks in total — the longest being the fourth song 'For Tomorrow' while the shortest is 'I Will Not Hide'. The three singles released from the album, 'Carousels', 'Prisoners' and 'Cathedrals of the Mind' have all been accompanied by individual music videos.

Fans are excited about the album's release with one tweeting, "Oh man... You think you’re ready for this new @dovesmusicblog LP after 11 years but you most assuredly are not! Mind-blowing even by their high standards of blowing minds. My review goes live 9/8 at @RIFFonline #Doves #TheUniversalWant."
