'Doubling Down with the Derricos': Karen fears Dawsyn may meet the same fate as Carter due to heart surgery
Karen and Deon Derricos celebrated the birth of their triplets and were looking forward to taking them home to the family. Unfortunately, the joyous occasion was followed by sad news when they found out that their daughter, who they named Dawsyn Derrico had a hole in her heart. The doctor informed Karen and Deon that Dawsyn would have to undergo two surgeries to make sure everything is fine. In the latest episode (August 25), Karen reflected on how it has been hard or her ever since she has come back from the hospital. She had been having a hard time getting back to how she was after undergoing a C-section for the third time.
At the same time, leaving her babies behind made her fear for them as she constantly wondered how they had been doing. Speaking to the camera, Karen admitted that she was worried about how the surgery would go. The doctor informed Karen and Deon that the surgery would be taking place next week. Karen admitted that seeing her baby girl in that condition made her wish that she could take her place. However, they both decided that they would be strong and keep their head high. Karen revealed that they had given Dawsyn a new name and that was "awesome Dawsyn."
Deon admitted that it had been hard for them because they had previously lost their son, Carter, who was also born prematurely. Deon stated that he wanted to ask God why he put them through this for the second time. Meanwhile, Karen also reflected on how there were times she thought of Carter and feared that Dawsyn would meet the same fate. She stated that the stress is taking a toll on her as some of the worst fears come to her mind when she sees Dawsyn in that position. While Deon and Karen struggled to come to terms with what was happening, they tried their best to put on a brave face for the family.
The only light at the end of the tunnel for the family was finding out that their other child, De'Aren, would be able to come back home. Deon and Karen got the news that De'Aren was doing good and ready to come home. As the family welcomed her home, they waited to be stress-free once Dawsyn's surgery was completed.
