Trump is more upset about losing Twitter than the presidency, says niece Mary: 'He didn't care about politics'
Former President Donald Trump's niece Mary has said that he "didn't care for politics" and getting banned from Twitter upset him more than losing the presidency. Mary also said that his love for golf trumped everything else.
Mary is a clinical psychologist by profession. In a recent interview, she said that she believes that the cause of distress for her uncle was his Twitter ban after the violent Capitol Hill riots, the participants of which are believed to be Trump supporters. Mary said he was further distressed by the high-profile tournaments scheduled for 2022 that were withdrawn by the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) from his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, after he lost the elections.

"I think that being banned from Twitter and having the [Professional Golf Association (PGA)] take their tournament away from his golf courses are probably the worst things that have happened to him in the last four years," she said in an interview on Thursday, adding that her uncle "didn't care about politics."
Her comments mirrored that of New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, who in February said that Trump was more saddened by the news that the privilege of hosting the PGA tournament was taken away from him. She added that this news affected him more than the impeachment proceedings against him which were ongoing at the time.
"A lot has happened in the last week, including the president losing his Twitter feed, impeachment coming to the fore, and the PGA withdrawing from Trump National. He's "gutted" by the PGA move, a person close to the White House says," she wrote in a tweet. Following it up, she wrote, "He’s angry about impeachment, people who have spoken to him say. But the reaction to the PGA decision was a different order of magnitude."

Mary in the interview further said, "How is he managing without Twitter? Because even he must realize that people really aren't paying attention to him in the same way." Commenting on the former president's continued involvement with the GOP, she added, "Clearly, this stuff with the Republican party is helping him because imagine if he didn't have that. If he had become as irrelevant as every other person who loses an election becomes, then I think his mental state would be much different."
Last year, Mary penned a tell-all book about Trump and the entire Trump clan titled 'Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man' and it is said to have sold over a million copies in the first week of its release. The book published by Simon and Schuster is said to include incidents that Mary had observed of her uncle during his pre-president era. The book also has details about the family dynamics that helped shape his personality.
Mary also believes that he will be the face of the Republicans in the 2024 elections. "It's all about maintaining the grip on power. He thinks on some level it's going to allow him to continue to operate with impunity as he has done his whole life, and also it's going to allow him to keep grifting money off of people," she said. Mary is currently suing Trump, his late brother, and sister Maryanne for fraud and civil conspiracy while claiming that they tricked her out of tens of millions of dollars in inheritance money.
