Indian producer Ekta Kapoor is back with her next film titled, 'Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare', which is a satire comedy starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. The film also premiered at the 24th Busan International Film Festival under the section 'A Window on Asian Cinema' on October 4, 2019. The film will now premiere on Netflix on September 18, 2020.

Bhumi, who'll be playing the role of Kitty in the film, described the importance of the project in an interview with The Free Press Journal and said, "It's a hugely relevant and important film for the country as it will make a big statement about womanhood, and it is fascinating how girls have come together to have such an important conversation." Here are all the details you need to know about the upcoming Netflix drama:

The film will release on Netflix on September 18, 2020.

Plot

The plot of the movie revolved around "a story of two cousins Dolly and Kajal and a secret shared between them. Living in the suburbs of New Delhi, Dolly is a middle-class working mother with a son and a hardworking husband. They are excited as they plan to move to a newly-built luxury apartment. There is a secret they keep to maintain their picture-perfect lifestyle. Kajal moves from rural India to live in a city, but the opportunities are very few for a young woman with little skills. So she works as a cyber-lover under the name Kitty on a dating app and meets a man. Now the two cousins who were critical for each other’s life, share their secrets and understand each other."

Konkana Sen Sharma marked her debut with 'Indira' in 1983 as a child artiste. She later debuted in a Bengali movie titled, 'Ek Je Aachhe Kanya' in 2000. She first gained attention with the English language film 'Mr and Mrs Iyer' in 2002. Sen won two consecutive Filmfare best-supporting actress awards for her performances in 'Omkara' (2006) and 'Life in a Metro' (2007). In 2017, her directorial debut film 'A Death in the Gunj' was released and she won the Filmfare award for best debut director, for the film. The same year, she starred in the critically acclaimed film, 'Lipstick Under my Burkha' which won her numerous international awards.

Bhumi Pednekar

Bhumi Pednekar made her debut in Bollywood back in 2015, after working for six years as an assistant casting director at Yash Raj Films. In 2015, she essayed the role of an overweight bride in the company's romantic comedy 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha', for which she bagged a Filmfare award for best female debut. Pednekar rose to fame with several other movies including, 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' (2017), 'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan' (2017), 'Bala' (2019), and 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' (2019).

In 2019, she won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for portraying the character of the septuagenarian sharpshooter Chandro Tomar in 'Saand Ki Aankh.' Describing the "all-girls" movie, 'Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare' she said, "I think just the idea of an all-girls team spearheading 'Dolly Kitty...' was super cool! Women who are vocal and all for progressiveness were headlining the project, be it (producer) Ekta (Kapoor), (director) Alankrita (Srivastava), (co-actress) Konkona (Sen Sharma), me and even the other members of the cast. We are all such empowered women and the experience was so satisfying and beautiful and just easy," Bhumi said.

The film is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and is produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under their banner Balaji Telefilms. Ekta Kapoor has worked in several projects with her mother Shobha Kapoor in films like, 'Veere Di Wedding', 'Jabariya Jodi', 'Dream Girl' and many more.
