'Doctor Who' Season 12 Episode 1: Fans delighted with Doctor's return and call it Jodie Whittaker's best episode yet
The Doctor finally returned to our screens on New Year's Day and fans couldn't be more thrilled with the new episode. With one of the best reveals in 'Doctor Who' history, the nearly 57-year-old science fiction show returned with a flash and a bang.
Season 12 is Jodie Whittaker's second season as the Doctor and Chris Chibnall's second as the showrunner. While many lauded Whittaker's performance in Season 11, most fans were disappointed with the season's storylines.
However, with the return of the Master in the Season 12 premiere, viewers are saying that the new season's premiere episode is better than all of Season 11. One fan tweeted, "So I know that even though most of us liked S11, it was a bit of a rocky season. But S12 just kicked off and didn’t stop and I never expected that reveal at the end. Can’t wait till Sunday! #DoctorWho."
Another fan tweeted, "While I'm totally expecting the plot to end up being something Matrix-y, the twist at the end of part 1 that I did NOT see coming was BRILLIANT. This episode was MILES better than anything they did last season. I hope they can stick the landing with part 2!"
Fans praised the episode, with one writing, "#DoctorWho An excellent first episode!! Can't wait to see the finale and what other gems Whodom has to offer!! Keep them coming!!" Another tweeted, "#DoctorWho was so great today. I’ve missed having fun with the show. Can’t wait to see the rest of the series."
Fans were especially impressed with the reveal. When John Simm's return as the Master was revealed by the BBC before the corresponding episode aired, fans were disappointed that it was not kept secret and they are glad the same was not repeated for Sacha Dhawan's turn as the Master.
One fan opined, "Expecting Cybermen and getting The Master. It's been a long time since #DoctorWho has surprised me. Well done Chris Chibnall, well done. Excellent misinformation campaign in the build-up."
'Doctor Who: Spyfall' Part 2 will air on BBC America on January 5, Sunday.
