Disney TV shows to look out for in January 2020: From 'Owl House' to 'Diary of a Future President'
January 2020 appears sorted for Disney Plus as it is set to stream two new shows in a week apart, both different and equal parts interesting. The channel is going for comedies with a twist.
'The Owl House'
Gearing up for a January 10 season premiere, the animated series will follow Luz, an inquisitive little teenage girl who stumbles upon a portal that transports her to the Boiling Isle, which sets her on a new and an exciting journey.
She befriends Eda, a rebellious b*tch and a tiny warrior, King, to pose as a witch an also in the process, indulge in learning witchcraft at the owl house. What's interesting is the characters and the way they look. One of them has his eyes on the chest, sounds weird at first but fits perfectly with the monster-y, magical, and mystical setting.
Created and executive-produced by Dana Terrace, 'The Owl House' premieres on January 10 (8.45 PM EST) on Disney Channel and Disney NOW. It stars Wendie Malick as Eda, Alex Hirsch as King, and Sarah-Nicole Robles as Luz.
'Diary of a Future President'
A Cuban-American middle-schooler Elena (Tess Romero) prepares hard to become the next world leader. An ambitious premise laced with comedy, what's not to like? The new series will focus on the life and times Elena and her passion to become a world leader.
Set to premiere on January 17 on Disney +, 'Diary of a Future President' is a 10-episode show, which is being executive-produced by Gina Rodriguez.
She will be directing the maiden episode and features in a recurring role. Also, Emily Gipson will serve as EP with creator Ilana Peña and showrunner Robin Shorr. According to Deadline, Selenis Leyva and Michael Weaver have been cast alongside Tess and Charlie Bushnell.
When "Jane the Virgin" was asked why she picked the subject for her production, she said she was always interested in telling stories that were underrepresented. "Bringing this story to Disney+ is a dream come true not to mention hope for our future," she told the publication.
