'Disney Family Singalong': A magical night of singing filled with hope, wonder and solidarity
The singing extravaganza, 'Disney Family Singalong', just kicked off on the ABC network on Thursday night, April 16. This entertaining 'Karaoke with the Stars' program featured a host of celebrities as they sang along to popular Disney movie songs while sheltering at home during the coronavirus pandemic. It was a great opportunity for families to put their karaoke hats on and join in with these talented stars, and it's all for a good cause too. All proceeds from donations made during the show will go to the Feeding America charity.
This hour-long karaoke singing party was hosted by Ryan Seacrest and featured Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth as she helped us warm up our vocal cords. Kicking things off into high gear was the 'Dancing with the Stars' alumni Derek Hough and his girlfriend Hayley Erbert, who went all out with their resplendent 'Beauty and the Beast' costumes as they danced and twirled their way around their home.
They were soon joined by Derek's famous dancing sister, Julianne Hough, who was also decked up in her Disney Princess costume. It was incredibly easy for watching families to join in with the singing, as the lyrics from each Disney song were put up on the screen, and the pace and flow of the songs were directed by the familiar Disney logo as it helpfully bounced over each word that needed to be sung.
There were a plethora of celebs taking part remotely from the comfort of the homes, and a wide range of soundtracks were also selected to make for an engrossing experience. If you're a Disney movie fan and are a fan of their classics, this was certainly a huge treat. Some of the highlights included 'A Spoonful of Sugar' from 'Mary Poppins' sung by country music stars Little Big Town who were making goodies in their respective kitchens with their families, 'Moana' star Auliʻi Cravalho singing 'How Far I'll Go', pop princess Ariana Grande singing 'I Won't Say I'm In Love' from 'Hercules', and Christina Aguilera singing 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' from The Lion King.
Besides these, there was also a massive singing session on 'Friend Like Me' led by James Monroe Iglehart and the 'Aladdin' Broadway musical cast members and a special 'High School Musical' cast reunion as they sang 'We're All in This Together' via video conference, and many more stars contributed their versions of treasured Disney classics before Demi Lovato and Michael Bublé closed off the evening on the perfect note with 'A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes' from 'Cinderella'.
It was a night of joy, hugs, nostalgia and hilarity. And massive praise should go to the talented stars and the producers of this star-studded singing fiesta. It was a magical night filled with hope, wonder and solidarity - what more could you ask for when it comes to the ultimate Disney experience?
