LONDON, ENGLAND: The case of Madeleine McCann has been dominating headlines ever since a Polish woman, Julia Wandelt, bizarrely claimed that she was the British girl, who went missing in 2007 when she was just three. Wandelt, 21, who also goes by Julia Faustyna and Julia Wendell, recently created an Instagram account called iammadeleinemccann, and shared videos and pictures, comparing her physical features with those of missing McCann.

An e-commerce website is now attempting to use this public attention to make a quick buck by selling stomach-churning McCann merchandise ahead of Mother’s Day on March 19. A website called CafePress has been selling these disturbing items – described as the “perfect gift”- on a distasteful sale. The gifts include a child-sized t-shirt with McCann's parents Gerry and Kate’s names on it, along with the line, “Responsible parents don’t leave children alone while they go out for dinner!”

The children's shirt normally costs £21 (~$25) but, according to the website, it is now on sale for just £13.50 (~$16). The website also sells ceramic mugs with writing on it that reads, "My name is Madeleine and I live with my parents." “Our unique ceramic mugs will soon be your new favorite way to consume hot or cold beverages,” reads one description of the mugs. The business is offering to print these words on other clothing items, including T-shirts, jumpers and even maternity outfits, according to the Daily Star.

However, this is not the first time when CafePress has caused outrage for advertising deplorable McCann merchandise. T-shirts bearing the slogan, "Maddie resides in my basement," were advertised on the website in 2017, altogether 10 years since she went missing. However, it was taken down due to the backlash, according to Magazine Promarketing

What does Julia Wandelt claim?

Wandelt claimed that the McCann family have approached her to undergo a DNA test to prove she was their daughter. "I talked with someone from Madeleine's family and I will have a possibility to talk with Madeleine's parents tomorrow and a DNA test will be done soon," the woman said on Instagram. Wandelt also claimed that she had freckles on her calf and a speck in her eye just like McCann had. “I have Mark in the same eye, but my Mark is faded I talked with eye doctor and he told me that it could be operated and I will go to doctor again to check it. I need a Police investigator who will take it seriously!” she wrote in one of her posts.

In another post, Wandelt claimed that her childhood memories were hazy. “I don't remember most of my childhood but my earliest memory is very strong and It's about holidays in hot place where was a beach and White or very light-colored buildings with apartments. I remember that I saw turtles on the beach it was little Bav as I can remember I saw turtles then and there were other children and they tried to touch small turtles. I don't see my family in this memory..” the post stated.
