LONDON, ENGLAND: A woman who says she is Madeleine McCann has stated that she would soon submit to a DNA test, according to reports. Within a week, Julia Wandelt, a Polish woman, became well-known after starting the Instagram account @iammadeleinemcann and claiming that she began to wonder if she was Maddie "a few months ago" after learning "something" from her grandmother. Previously in 2020, a woman claimed to have seen the missing girl in Portugal.

Many have been using social media in recent months to display their resemblance to Maddie as part of a trend. Wendell has most recently made unfounded accusations about Maddie's identity by comparing her images to Maddie's on TikTok and Instagram as "evidence." Investigators are skeptical as well, considering their probe into the missing girl case saw them get important evidence against prime suspect Christian Brueckner.

What does Julia Wandelt claim?

The woman also claims to share Madeleine's freckle on her calf and speck in her eye in those locations. Although she is 21 years old, she thinks her actual age may be incorrect. Maddie was born in May 2003, thus she would be 19 years old right now.

She now asserts that the McCanns approached her to undergo a DNA test and that she expects to speak with them directly in the coming days. "I talked with someone from Madeleine's family and I will have a possibility to talk with Madeleine's parents tomorrow and a DNA test will be done soon," the woman said on her Instagram story, as reported by Express.

The woman wrote in a post on Friday, February 17, that she had spoken to a person who was allegedly Madeleine's cousin and that they had told her she might be able to contact Kate and Gerry McCann to set up a DNA test. The family of Madeleine has not yet responded to these allegations.

"I think I can be Madeleine. I need DNA test,"  her Instagram bio reads, on a page with almost 200,000 followers. "Police investigators from UK and Poland try to ignore me. I will tell my story in posts here. Help me."

The unknown woman responded to inquiries from some followers by stating that she does not recall being taken away and has no memory of the majority of her upbringing. Wendell said, "I don't remember being taken away. I mean, I don't remember almost my entire childhood," per reports from Mirror. She continued, “I have asked for pictures of when my mum was pregnant with me, other medical records, and any pictures from my childhood and she never shows them, she just always tells me I’m crazy. My school teacher when I was very young said that I wasn’t there from the start but my parents insist I was."

She added, “After all this confusion I began to do my own research I discovered what had happened to Madeleine McCann and started to piece together the similarities we shared. It has been so stressful trying to get people to listen to me."

What do German authorities say?

German investigators think sex offender Christian Brueckner killed Maddie, who vanished in 2007 while on a family vacation in Portugal. But the child's body has never been discovered despite intensive searches and numerous police inquiries.

The allegations come as German investigators announce they are "convinced" that Maddie was kidnapped and killed in Portugal in 2007 by 46-year-old pedophile Brueckner. Yet more than three years after they identified Brueckner as their top suspect, they still don't appear to be any closer to pressing charges against him because they lack sufficient proof that he was responsible for both her disappearance and death.

According to a buddy, who was previously mentioned, the prosecution has acknowledged that they are having trouble gathering enough evidence to convict him. In an effort to solve the case once and for all, they have begun re-interviewing Brueckner's friends and connections.

Detectives recently spoke with a friend who knew the German man from their time living together in the Algarve. He said, "They believe Chris did it, they say they know he did it, but they told me they don’t have proof. That's why they are going back over old interviews. When they spoke to me they were very open about what the situation is." He continued, "It felt like they are struggling. They just asked the same questions again, there was nothing new."
