‘Diary Of A Future President’: Release date, cast, trailer, and all you need to know about Disney's comedy series

The streaming channel from Disney is all set to drop its latest comedy series created by Ilana Pena which follows the story of a 12-year old Cuban American girl with an aspiration to become the future president of the United States.

Becoming the leader of the free nation and the largest democracy of the world is a dream every American child has. More so today, where children want to make a difference to the planet they call home. 12-year old Elena is no different. The upcoming series is a collection of her journey and experience as she turns her dreams into reality and attempts to join the presidential campaign when she grows up. The series is said to be inspired by Pena’s childhood.

Release Date

The series will premiere on Disney+ on January 17, 2020.

Plot

Elena is a 12-year-old Cuban American girl who is in middle school and dreams of becoming the future president of the United States. The series is a voice-over narrative by Elena as she reads from her diary and takes the audience through her personal and social challenges against adolescence and her aspirations. She lives with her mother, Gabi, and older brother, Bobby, who play an important role in her journey.

Gina Rodriguez, who is also the producer of the show plays the adult version of Elena who will be seen in flashforwards running for the presidential campaign. She founded the production company I Can And I Will to take this project forward and support the Latin-American community in the United States. She is also said to be directing the pilot episode of the series. She has been named the "next big thing" and one of the "top 35 Latinos under 35," by The Hollywood Reporter, owing to her breakout performance as the titular character in FILLY BROWN during the Sundance Film Festival in 2012. She has appeared in many popular television series like ‘Big Mouth’, ‘Carmen Sandiego’, ‘Bold And The Beautiful’, and many more.

Tess Romero will play 12-year old Elena Canero Reed and Charlie Bushnell plays her older brother, Bobby.

Tess is known for her work in actress, known for Blindspot (2015), Anya (2019) and Such Is Life (2020).
 
Selenis Leyva stars as Gabi, mother of Elena and Bobby and Micheal Weaver has been cast as Sam, Gabi’s love interest and colleague.

Selenis is an accomplished American actor and the face of many hit television series as well as some popular movies. She is known for her work in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Orange Is the New Black (2013), Maria Full of Grace (2004), Dietland (2018), among many more.

Micheal Weaver is a Canadian actor who shot to fame as Officer Samuel Smy in Broken Lizard's comedy hit Super Troopers. Later he debuted on TV playing the series lead on 'The Mullets', 'The Joe Schmo Shoq', 'Here And Now', among others.

‘Diary Of A Future Princess’ is created by Ilana Pena. Gina Rodriguez serves as an executive producer through her company I Can & I Will Productions, which produces the series in association with CBS Television Studios. Robin Shorr and Brad Silberling serve as the series showrunners along with additional executive producers Peña and Emily Gipson.
