'Deserved a nomination': Mia Goth slams Oscars for snubbing her horror movies 'X' and 'Pearl'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Internet extended its support to ‘Infinity Pool’ star Mia Goth after she called out the Academy for snubbing her recent horror films “X” and “Pearl”. On January 26, during an interview with reporter Jake Hamilton, Mia criticized the Academy, saying, “I think that it’s very political and that it’s not entirely based on the quality of a project, per se. I think there’s a lot going on there, a lot of cooks in the kitchen when it comes to nominations and categories that are recognized. Maybe I shouldn’t say that either but I think that’s true. I think a lot of people know that. I don’t know why.”
Goth said that in order for more horror movies to be acknowledged, ‘change is necessary’ and a shift should happen. “If they wanted to engage with the wider public, I think it would be of benefit, really,” she remarked. Several fans also came out and extended their support to Mia claiming that Mia should have been nominated for the Oscars this year. One person wrote on Twitter, “They need to include horror to boost the bad ratings, they’ve been focusing on films no casual movie viewer has watched especially younger ones but horror movies are popular viewing for teens/young adults and there are some amazing horror movies like pearl that deserve sm praise”

“She definitely deserved a nomination!” another added. Another user echoed, “She was amazing in Pearl and rightfully deserves a nomination. Instead, they nominate Ana for that abysmal Marilyn movie. Such a shame. Mia Goth was definitely the best performance of the year in my opinion.”

Several people came out with some possible reasons behind Mia Goth and her films not getting nominated for the Oscars. One person wrote, “Many Academy members don’t like horror because it scares them so… less people watch these movies… then less chances to get them nominated.” “Maybe people dont like watching extremely violent depictions of people being torn apart? There's a reason Horror's like the worst performing genre at the box office,” another added.

Goth’s flicks aren’t the only horror movies that have been snubbed by the Academy recently. This year, Jordan Peele's 'Nope' also did not receive any nominations, while in previous years, movies like 'The Witch' and 'Hereditary' received no nominations. However, there have been some exceptions. M Night Shyamalan's 'The Sixth Sense' and 'The Exorcist', according to IndieWire, were "one of the few" horror films to receive Best Picture nominations. In 2018, Peele won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for 'Get Out', while 'The Silence of the Lambs' won multiple Oscars.
