Chadwick Boseman's brother Derrick says Oscar miss not a snub as award 'was never an obsession' for late actor
The Oscars wrapped the Awards season with a momentous aftertaste as Chloe Zhao made history - becoming the first woman of colour to earn the Best Director award, and Youn Jung-Yuh became the first Korean actor to win big in the Best Supporting actress category. But there was bitter disappointment when Chadwick Boseman didn't get a posthumous win and the Best Actor went to Anthony Hopkins instead. Though the 'Hannibal' actor payed homage to Boseman in his acceptance speech, it just wasn't enough for the internet, which thought Boseman was 'robbed'.
Boseman, who lost his four-year secret-battle with colon cancer in 2020, was a much revered candidate for the award - the popular 'snub' having already been criticized as 'Oscars played itself' on social media. He was nominated for 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom' - the last film in his acting career, before his life was cut short. The critically-acclaimed performance was expected to be recognized the way Heath Ledger's was for 'The Dark Knight'. Boseman's older brother Derrick however wants fans to not consider this a snub. The reason? Chadwick never cared for the Oscars at all.

Who is Derrick Boseman?
Everybody's beloved 'Black Panther' aka Chadwick Boseman's eldest brother Derrick is a 54-year-old pastor. Apart from him, Boseman is also survived by another older brother Kevin, 48, who lovingly remembers his brother as 'Chad'. The brothers were born to Carolyn and Leroy Boseman who raised them in Anderson, North Carolina. Derrick's mother was a nurse, and his father worked at a textile factory, and managed upholstery business. Derrick grew up to become a preacher and garnered popularity around Tenessee at some point.
In the wake of his brother's alleged Oscar snub, Derrick, told TMZ that their family isn't upset with the outcome and wished Hopkins well for winning the award, stating, "I'm sure [Anthony] would if Chad won." Derrick also told the outlet that he "doesn't view Chadwick not winning an Oscar for Best Actor as a snub because every nominated actor was excellent and deserving of the award." Derrick also added how Boseman didn't place much value in the Oscars anyway; the late actor "always described them to me as a campaign," his older brother revealed. Of course, an Oscar "would have been an achievement but was never an obsession," the outlet added.
Derrick and Chadwick's relationship in his last days
Shortly after the tragic news of his brother's death, Derrick opened up about his last days with Boseman - the way the '42' and 'Black Panther' actor urged him to get him 'out of the game'. Boseman had said to Derrick, "Man, I'm in the fourth quarter, and I need you to get me out of the game," the pastor recalled in an interview with the New York Times. He quickly remembered he had also asked his youngest brother what he meant at the time, "but then realised that he was tired. He was ready to go."
Derrick then claimed, "When he told me that, I changed my prayer from, 'God heal him, God save him,' to 'God, let your will be done'. And the next day he passed away," adding how his brother was talented from a very young age. Their other brother Kevin also told the publication, "Chad was gifted. He's probably the most gifted person I've ever met. I have been trying to remember Chad and not Chadwick."
