Spoilers for 'Deadliest Catch' Season 16 Episode 9 'Cold War Heating Up'

The Northwestern was in trouble and the failure of one of the engines cost them while they were in the middle of raking in a potful of Opilio crabs. The issue effectively put an end to their crabbing expedition as the immediate plan is to get back to town on one engine and chalk out a plan of action.

Fans watching the show shared their opinions on the incident. "This is some scary trip for @fvnorthwestern with @northwesternsig and @mandyhansennw #DeadliestCatch," a fan wrote.

"Poor Sig, it's one alarm after another! @northwesternsig #DeadliestCatch" wrote another. "Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse. #NWTweetFleet #DeadliestCatch," a tweet read. "I can tell you this, if I was gonna be stuck, on any boat, in the Bering Sea, is want it to be on the @fvnorthwestern with the Hansen’s! #DeadliestCatch," a fan said.

Some fans agreed that turning back was the best idea. "That’s a tough call for @northwesternsig on the @fvnorthwestern but it’s definitely the right one for their safety #DeadliestCatch," a fan tweeted. "@NickMcglashan if both engines die on the boat and you are far out to sea, who comes to tow the boat back to the harbor? #deadliestcatch," a fan asked.

For a few, it was just bad luck with what happened to Sig & Co. "Not a lot of Norwegian luck on the Northwestern this episode! @fvnorthwestern @northwesternsig #DeadliestCatch," a tweet read. "Just goes to show how things can change in an instant out on the Bering Sea. Shows how just one little thing can screw you over out there. #DeadliestCatch," another fan remarked.

It started with a power cut that left the ship in the dark at sea and Mandy dashed across the ship to get help. They figured out a short circuit was caused by a small wire and while the engineers did manage to fix it up, the Northwestern ran into trouble again with an engine failure soon after.

What are your thoughts on an eventful day that Northwestern had?

'Deadliest Catch' Season 16 airs on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on Discovery.
