Daytime Emmys 2020: 'Jeopardy!' bags Best Game Show award, fans say the all-time classic deserves to win

'Jeopardy!' won the Outstanding Game Show at the 47th Daytime Emmy Awards that aired on CBS on Friday, June 26, night, marking the first time the ceremony has aired on network television in years. Other nominees in the category included: 'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?' (Nickelodeon), 'Double Dare' (Nickelodeon), 'Family Feud '(Syndication), and 'The Price Is Right' (CBS). The awards were hosted by Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba and Marie Osmond, the hosts of CBS' daytime talk show 'The Talk'.

Fans on their part were not surprised that 'Jeopardy!' walked away with the win. "I knew it!!! Congratulations!!!" wrote one fan. "This isn't a surprise," read one of the tweets. "I am so happy that Jeopardy won," said one fan. "Not #DoubleDare or #AreYouSmarter, but great nonetheless! Congrats!!!!" a tweet read. "Always the best game show ever huh? Congrats on the win!!!!" a fan tweeted.

Congratulatory messages continued to pour in for the game show for its win on Twitter with people lauding for it for the all-time classic that it was. "This is so cool! It didn't come as a surprise, but watching it over the years has become a ritual," one fan wrote while others continued to hail it as the best show ever. With over 8,000 episodes aired, the daily syndicated version of Jeopardy! has a staggering record of 33 Daytime Emmy Awards as well as a Peabody Award. CBS is the network with the most nominations, with 57 nods to their name. Amazon Prime Video is second with a close 55.

The daily syndicated version has featured Alex Trebek as host and Johnny Gilbert as an announcer. In related news, Trebek and his wife, Jean, donated $500,000 to Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission to help fight the homeless crisis in Los Angeles. According to founder and CEO Ken Craft,  the money will be put to use to fund the construction of a new central facility that includes a commissary, a shelter for homeless seniors, administrative space, and a medical facility.
