Netflix's 'Daybreak' teaser promises fun post-apocalyptic high school drama that's part gorefest and part coming-of-age comedy

Ferris Bueller meets Mad Max when social outcast turned heroic survivor Josh Wheeler gets separated from his girlfriend, Sam Dean, and joins unstable 12-year-old kid genius Angelica Green and bully-turned-samurai Wesley Fists on an epic quest in search of her

Oh, how the tables have turned! Matthew Broderick is best known for having played the eponymous teenage hero of 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off', a character that gave nightmares to teachers everywhere back in the '80s. But with the passage of time, Broderick seems to have mellowed down into the role of an authority figure himself, though definitely not one as annoying as his old nemesis Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones).

Broderick plays Glendale High School’s Principal Michael Burr in Netflix's new post-apocalyptic teen comedy 'Daybreak', based on the comic book of the same name. "I look at you scholars and I see infinite possibilities," Principal Burr says in a recently released teaser for the series. "So don't wait to throw yourself into becoming the best you that you can be."

Glendale starts out looking like just another typical American high school with all the usual social distinctions and groupings but all that changes after a nuclear holocaust takes place on Homecoming night. In the new world forged by nuclear fire, jocks become bloodthirsty warriors and cheerleaders turn into Amazons, all fighting to survive in a post-apocalyptic dystopia.

After he gets separated from his girlfriend, Sam Dean (Sophie Simnett), social outcast turned heroic survivor Josh Wheeler (Colin Ford) joins unstable 12-year-old kid genius Angelica Green and bully-turned-samurai Wesley Fists (Austin Crute) on an epic quest in search of her. Unfortunately, it looks like our young heroes are going to have their work cut out for them, especially with the city overrun by crazed classmates and freakish zombies.

Judging by the teaser, the series looks like it will be combining a 'Mad Max'-Esque aesthetic with 'Ferris Bueller' humor. The show promises to be a thrilling ride that's part gorefest and part coming-of-age comedy and if the actual series turns out to be anything like the teaser, it's going to be an epic watch rivalling the likes of 'Zombieland' and 'Scream Queens'.

There's romance, action, fast cars, plenty of bloodsports, roving marauders and hormonal teenagers turned bada** warriors. "And you thought we weren't gonna have any fun in the apocalypse," the teaser reveals.

'Daybreak' will arrive on Netflix October 24.
