Is Davido’s ‘A Better Time’ trash? Fans call album starring Nicki Minaj, Nas, Young Thug ‘better than Wizkid's’
Apart from Korean singers and Latin artistes, Nigeria is now fast becoming a new hot spot for emerging pop stars. Artistes like Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido are waving the Nigerian flag high in terms of music. Even if the count is yet to increase, the fan base is already divided. Davido, who is one of the prominent pop singers in the country, has released his new album ‘A Better Time’ and it features prolific American hip-hop artistes like Nicki Minaj, Young Thug, Nas, Chris Brown and Lil Baby among others.
The 30-year-old singer’s fans are loving the new album but there are a few who think the opposite. A lot of social media users took to Twitter to compare Davido’s new album ‘A Better Time’ with Wizkid and Burna Boy’s music. One user supported the latter and tweeted, “Davidos music is trash and wouldnt be shit without his rich daddy. Burnaboy and Wizkid are the faces of Nigeria.” Another user supported Davido and expressed, “Since this is a safe and judgement free space can I say off of first listen Davidos overall album is better than burna boys album this year.”
One individual posted, “Ok some of you guys are gassing it Davidos album is not that bad.” Another user added, “I just had to enter this chat.... Davidos music just dont give me the vibes I think its his Voice thats the problem also he sounds like Cassper Nyovest =Same watsapp group, also I believe That Wiz Kids New Album Made in Lagos is “Album Of The Year”! GOOD MUSIC for the soul!” One fan shared, “I am a Wizkid Fan but I gotta say this Davidos new album slaps #ABetterTime #ABT” Another user posted, “I don’t mean to join the Davido vs wizkid band wagon but damn davidos album is a million times better than wizkids own. Just more hits and more catchy tunes. Davido won this round.”

Davido has also dropped a song with American rapper Lil Baby called ‘So Crazy’ from his fourth studio album ‘A Better Time.’ Speaking on joining hands with Atlanta rapper, Davido in an official statement said, as reported by NME, “I’ve known Lil Baby for quite a while, and I think it’s important that I point this out that when you are collaborating on a record, you need to make sure that the relationship is good outside of music. I feel like that is when you make the best music.” Davido’s new album ‘A Better Time’ is a follow-up to his 2019 hit album ‘A Good Time’.
Speaking about his new album in an official statement, as published by Pitchfork, the Nigerian pop star shared, “I won’t keep you any longer. This year we’ve been through crazy times. Real crazy times. And through it all, we’ve all had to look inwards to find our unique hopes of better times ahead. I found a few. In human form and creative form. I’m so glad I can finally share them with you. I present to you ‘A Better Time.’” He added, “One thing about African- rich or poor, happy or sad, is that no matter what the situation going on in your country, you always find a reason to smile and just be happy. We (African people) always like to celebrate and ‘A Better Time’ is that outlet to be free, be happy and hopeful for a better future.”
