‘He was charismatic’: Simon Cowell, others pay HEARTFELT TRIBUTE to Darius Campbell after his death at 41

Tributes started pouring in after Campbell was found dead in his apartment on August 11. The cause of his death remains unknown

ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA: ‘Pop Idol’ and ‘West End’ star Darius Campbell Danesh passed away at the age of 41. He was found dead in his apartment under mysterious circumstances on August 11, 2022. Following the news of his death, tributes started pouring in from several celebrities, including Simon Cowell, who said, “He was charismatic."

According to a report by the BBC, the cause of death is not known, however, the singer-songwriter and actor's family informed that he was found unresponsive in his US apartment in a statement as they announced his death. The statement read, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh. Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners' office." They also mentioned that the local police department has "confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue."

Darius' death shocks celebs

Heartfelt tributes started pouring in from celebrities, including record producer Simon Cowell, who was a judge on 'Pop Idol'. The 62-year-old, in a statement given to the PA news agency as per the Independent, said, “I first saw Darius on television over 20 years ago and I got to know him really well. He was charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with. His passing, for someone so young, is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends.”

Gareth Gates, who was the runner-up on the first series of 'Pop Idol', wrote via an Instagram post, "I’m heartbroken. Darius took me under his wing during our time in Pop Idol, like a big brother; always looking out for me and for that I thank you my friend. I will miss our chats. He was one of the most beautiful, intelligent and gentle souls I was lucky enough to know, a soul that lit up every room."

Mark Read wrote, "Terribly sad news to hear about Darius Campbell Danesh, gone far too soon! I wrote a couple of songs with him years back, and a more charming and charismatic fella you could not meet Condolences to his family & friends."

Liberty X member Michelle Heaton tweeted by saying, "So sad … thoughts with Darius family right now x always our Britney."

TV presenter Nicki Chapman wrote, "There will only ever be one Darius Campbell Danesh. A true gent with a kind soul & mischievous tinkle in his eye. From that eventful first audition on Popstars to him kindly inviting me to see him perform on the West End stage Thoughts are with his family at this sad time."

Reality TV star Stevi Ritchie said wrote, "R.I.P Darius a true Artist and Entertainer." Comedian Lenny Henry shared Campbell's iconic song as he wrote, "Darius sings 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' audition on ITV Popstars."
