Update: Darius Danesh's cause of death was revealed by Minnesota medical examiner on September 9, a month after his death on August 11.
The medical examiner ruled that the singer died from inhaling an anesthetic drug ethyl chloride. His death has been ruled as an accident.

ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA: Scottish singer Darius Campbell Danesh was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his Rochester apartment on August 11, 2022. The singer was discovered unresponsive, according to reports. The news shocked the world as it was unexpected and the 'Pop Idol' star was said to be doing fine some time ago. After rocking the world with his cover of a Britney Spears' song during the audition in 2001, he quickly climbed the UK charts with his hit single 'Colourblind'. Campbell's mysterious death has shocked fans who are unable to process this information. The tragedy also comes just weeks before his comeback trip to the UK and reunion with Adam Lambert, the winner of 'American Idol', for an episode after almost 20 years.
The cause of Darius Campbell's death is yet to be known and the law enforcement officials are currently waiting for the toxicology report. The news was announced by the official statement issued by the family of Campbell, 41. According to BBC, the statement reads, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh. Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiner's office." It further read, "We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother." Celebrities like Simon Cowell came forth to pay tributes to the singer and remember his iconic audition on the singing competition show. "I first saw Darius on television over 20 years ago and I got to know him really well," Cowell told Simon told MailOnline. "He was charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with. His passing, for someone so young, is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends," he added.
