Conan O'Brien, whose TBS show ‘Conan’ ended after running for nearly 28 years, had quite a ball at this year’s Emmy Awards as he grabbed all the headlines possible for his unusual antics at the award ceremony held at Microsoft Theater in LA on Sunday, September 19. The popular TV host was one of the top trending topics over the weekend after he crashed Stephen Colbert's acceptance speech.

And, if this was not enough, Conan was also seen saluting the CEO of the Television Academy during the introduction of Debbie Allen, who received the Governor's Award. The 58-year-old TV star also got a shout-out from John Oliver as he accepted his Emmy for the Outstanding Variety Talk Series. Conan O'Brien had scored a nomination in the same category but he, unfortunately, had to head back home empty-handed. Social media users quickly logged into Twitter as they wondered if Conan was drunk during the show presentation. Speaking of the ceremony, the 2021 Emmy Awards were hosted by Cedric the Entertainer and were aired live on CBS.

Was Conan O' Brien drunk at the Emmys?

Conan O' Brien was first seen crashing the acceptance speech of Stephen Colbert after the latter won an outstanding variety special Emmy for his 2020 election night special, ‘Stephen Colbert's Election Night 2020: Democracy's Last Stand Building Back America Great Again Better 2020.’ Conan hurriedly rushed to the stage and hugged Colbert along with a few other award winners present on the stage. However, he did not leave the stage as Colbert began his speech.

“Thank you. Wow. I haven't met some of these people before. Thank you to the Academy, and thank you to Showtime for giving us an hour on election night to do our show because CBS had to report the news or something like that. I accept this Emmy on behalf of everybody who worked on the Late Show, with pride and I am so proud to be one of them." He added, "Most of the people behind me really deserve this Emmy right now” seemingly also referring to Conan.
 
Conan O' Brien pulled off another funny stunt as he managed to get everyone’s attention in the room. The former ‘Saturday Night Live’ writer was spotted saluting the CEO of the Television Academy- Frank Scherma. And, he later also got a mention from John Oliver as he accepted the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series. “Thank you so much. Like many in this room, I was kind of rooting for Conan [O’Brien], so this is bittersweet.”  

‘Only good thing about this year’s Emmys is zero f**ks drunk Conan’

Social media users had a gala time trolling Conan O’ Brien for his funny stunts at the award show. One person asked, “Is @ConanOBrien drunk? Wtf is going on?  Whereas, another posted, “Conan O’Brien leads huge standing ovation for the Television Academy President Frank Scherma — and he’s still saluting him. Gotta love Conan. Gonna miss that guy.” The next one added, “Is Conan drunk or something? He’s giving off serious Scott Frank/James Corden vibes.”
 
Meanwhile, one chimed in and added, “Conan doesn’t give af tonight huh? And, another asserted, “God bless Conan O’Brien. He’s the funniest thing tonight.” One user tweeted, “Conan lowkey just snatch best moment of the #Emmys.” And, another individual said, “Conan is doing the most since he’s never going to be back at the #emmys.”  One person dubbed the TV host as, “@ConanOBrien  you magnificent bastard.” And, another claimed, “Conan not getting enough attention. Sit you’re a** down!” While, one concluded, “The only good thing about this year’s #Emmys is zero f**ks drunk Conan!”
