Stephen King's supernatural horror sci-fi series, 'The Institute,' was renewed for season 2 last year. And by the looks of it, the release date isn't too far. The MGM+ series was greenlit for an eight-episode second run after the show's solid showing.

According to MGM's new post on Threads, video footage from season 1 and also 'From' seasons 1-3 was released. The clip was captioned, "A gift from MGM+ to you... Catch up on the stories and characters you love before they come back bigger and better in 2026." This all but confirms that the new season might drop soon, with 'From' set to drop the fourth instalment as well. Season 1 premiered in July 2025, and it remains to be seen if the new season aims at a similar window.

While it was known that 'From' Season 4 had a 2026 release planned, the video was the first indication that the streamer planned a surprise announcement for 'The Institute'. Both shows have done well for the streaming network, and it isn't a surprise to see the move to get both shows back on the small screen. The series follows a group of children with extraordinary abilities kidnapped and experimented upon at a secret government institute.

Earlier, King weighed in on the second season. "Set free but hunted, new dangers await the escapees from the Institute, and I can’t wait," King said. Season one starred Ben Barnes, Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Joe Freeman, along with Simone Miller, Fionn Laird, Jason Diaz, and Jane Luk. The cast for Season 2 is yet to be announced.

“We’ve been so gratified by the response to our first season, which is a testament to the dedication of our fantastic cast and crew. We’re thrilled that Michael Wright and everyone at MGM have enabled us to continue Stephen’s powerful and timely story. From this project’s inception, we’ve felt there would be much more story to tell as our brilliant characters continue to navigate their way through the dangers of the world they’re facing”, said EP's Jack Bender and Benjamin Cavell, per Deadline.

"The Institute has thrilled audiences with its distinctive storytelling and exceptional performances that expertly bring the singular voice of Stephen King to the screen," said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. "We’re so happy to be able to continue and expand this chilling journey and dive even deeper into the secrets of The Institute in season two."
