Comic-Con 2020: Why Amazon Prime's 'Truth Seekers' stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are the perfect comedy duo?
Stan Laurel-Oliver Hardy, Dean Martin-Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope-Bing Crosby, Chris Tucker-Jackie Chan... and now Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have joined the pantheon of greats when it comes to the best comedy duo. It is clearly safe to say Pegg and Frost are the kind who manage to tickle your funny bone. And the secret of their success can be attributed to great chemistry and a long working relationship.
Pegg and Frost will be the cynosure of all eyes ahead of Comic-Con 2020's panel that sees some introductions and discussion about Amazon Prime Video's paranormal comedy series, 'Truth Seekers', starring the duo as they partner up to uncover and film paranormal sightings across the United Kingdom.
Pegg is as hilarious as he can get. Be it while playing Benji Dunn in the 'Mission: Impossible' series of films or as Nicholas Angel in 'Hot Fuzz'. The English actor has been one of the prominent names in the comedy genre in Hollywood. The duo has collaborated together and shared screen space in hit series, including 'Spaced' and movies, 'Cornetto Trilogy,' comprising of 'Shaun of the Dead', 'Hot Fuzz', and 'The World’s End.' Frost is the perfect teammate richly complementing Pegg's humor.
To start off, Pegg and Frost are pals off-screen. This friendship translates even better when they share screen space together. The duo also set up their production studio, Stolen Picture. In an interview with The Guardian, Frost recollects the times with Pegg. "We’d sit up in bed and read a big book together, usually a glossy atlas or a book about Christmas,” he wrote. “He’d hold one page and I’d hold the other. It was cold at night and we’d just snuggle down and sleep. It felt right."
The story of the duo sharing the bed has been discussed before, but with this, it's just a classic example of the kind of relationship they share. The comedy comes out when Pegg's mercurial wit combines with Frost's tongue-in-cheek comedy. It's like magic and what it does is leave the audience in splits. "Sergeant Butterman, The Little Hand Says It’s Time To Rock And Roll" has to be one of the epic lines in 'Hot Fuzz', and a lot boils down to just the way the scene played out.
Pegg and Frost have appeared alongside each other in six films, each of them garnering stellar ratings. 'The Cornetto Trilogy' has the films rated at a whopping 90% on Rotten Tomatoes ('The World's End is 89% though) and that is another proof why the pair are successful as a comedy duo. Add to this some British flair, a bunch of one-liners, and a whacky storyline, Pegg and Frost would convert that into a clever comedy.
While much about Truth Seekers' is unknown except for the basic premise, what we can count on are the laughs. With the duo poking around the paranormal, there's enough room for a gripping, and haunting comedy.
Comic-Con @Home 2020 is set to take place virtually from July 22 to 26.
