Comic-Con 2020: 'Solar Opposites' session sees Season 2 clip and teases 'Rick & Morty', 'Star Wars' crossovers
At Comic-Con@Home 2020, a pre-recorded session saw the presence of 'Solar Opposites' EP Josh Bycel and cast Justin Roiland, who is also an EP, Thomas Middleditch, Sean Giambrone, and Mary Mack. They released an exclusive clip from the upcoming season of the show and also addressed taking on the haters. They also revealed that they are ready with an action plan for crossovers that may never happen. Like, say one with 'Transformers', 'Star Wars' or even 'The Muppet Baby'.
Executive producer Mike McMahan who was also a part of the session teased, “There’s nothing we hate more than haters and we really bring to the haters the second season… We take it to the haters pretty strong and also camp. We make fun of camp and haters."
Bycel teased specific plot points and said fans can look forward to, "Interesting class stuff when they discover that there’s another group of people that are there." He added, “They’ve never had to worry about class as aliens. We have a great episode where Terry is obsessed with dinner parties and Korvo is terrible at dinner parties and says all the wrong things.”
Then came the discussion about a crossover with a show like Adult Swim's 'Rick and Morty' which shares similar aesthetics to 'Solar Opposites'. Considering McMahan and Roiland are also the creators behind the former, expectations for crossover episodes are not out of the ballpark. Speaking about the same McMahan said, "As everybody knows, the first thing you do when you’re creating a new show is you start to think about all the crossovers you can do. We’ve already written the 'Transformers' cross, the 'Star Wars' crossover, 'Muppet Baby' crossover, the 'Captain Crunch' crossover."
Roiland, on the other hand, added, "We got to get these corporations on board to make nice with each other and lend the IP."
So what does their gameplan include for a 'Rick and Morty' crossover episode? Roiland shared, "We know what we would do if we did a 'Rick and Morty' crossover. It’ll be everybody sitting in a room and they’ll be writing emails asking the 'Power Rangers' to do a crossover with 'Star Trek' the whole time."
One of the things that many viewers had noted at the time of the 'Solar Opposites' release was how the show it is similar in tone to 'Rick and Morty'. Both the shows share the theme of main characters hating human beings and their dumb ways that lead to the destruction of their own planet.
An exclusive clip was also released at the Comic-Con@Home edition teasing the upcoming season. This clip features storyboards of scenes from the upcoming season as production is still underway. One of the scenes sees Terry chilling while Korvo is calculating data spikes.
