Activities across the globe have come to a halt due to the dire circumstances caused by the novel coronavirus. Today (June 9), Billboard reported that the much-anticipated music festival Coachella 2020 has been canceled. AEG CEO Dan Beckerman told in the staff memo, “When we are able to reopen, it will take time until we see our fans, partners, and sponsors fully return.” He added further, “The world is slowly re-opening, and our industry will re-open later and more slowly than most.”

In the initial phases of the pandemic, the California desert festival was postponed from its usual schedule from April to October 2020. However, its been three months since, and as the curve doesn’t seem to flatten, Coachella had to be canceled for safety reasons. The news obviously hasn’t served music fans well as they had been waiting a long time to attend the event.  While one disappointed fan wrote, “Of course the year i decide to go to coachella consisting of a lineup full of my favourite artists it gets cancelled…,” Another added, “Saw the announcement today that October Coachella is officially cancelled. Glad I got a refund already. So whack. First and probably only year I was gonna ever pay for that ish. Blessing in disguise. Mo $ to do some things with.”

The majority of them have taken to Twitter to rant as they won’t get to watch their favorite musician Frank Ocean perform anytime soon. One Twitter user said, “LMFAOOOOO THE WAY EVERYONE WAS FOOLED INTO THINKING FRANK OCEAN WAS GONNA BE AT COACHELLA THIS YEAR AND THE WHOLE FESTIVAL GOT CANCELLED LMAOOOO.”

“ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS SEE FRANK OCEAN @coachella COME BACKKKKK,” wrote another fan of the ‘White Ferrari’ singer. While another added, “I’m glad Coachella is cancelled. if I can’t see frank perform then NONE of y’all can either. Lol.” Fans are also disheartened as their chances of watching the K-Pop band Big Bang make a comeback are now narrowed. One tweet read, “Omo!!! Coachella officially cancelled!!! I know it's for everyone's safety but still...Hope #BIGBANG will still try to meet us w/some proj. this year. I mean obviously Coachella would be cancelled... hopefully #BIGBANG can still make a come back.”

"Covid 19 sucks. I'm not a fan of Big Bang but I was hoping to see them perform at Coachella." read another tweet.
