'Christmas in Rockefeller Center': Skylar Astin and Alex Newell fail to impress even their own fans in an otherwise spectacular night

Despite being two extraordinary singers in their own right, both Astin and Newell were completely out of sync and seemed like they were singing in two different tones which fans were quick to notice

'Christmas in Rockefeller Center' is an event all of America — nay, all of the world looks forward to for a whole year, and this year looked promising to be a great night for entertainment.

It featured performances from the likes of Brett Eldredge, Derek and Julianne Hough, Jon Bon Jovi, John Legend, Idina Menzel, Billy Porter, Lea Michele, Ne-Yo, Gwen Stefani, Straight No Chaser and others.

It seemed like everything from our Christmas dreams until the undeniably talented Skyler Astin and Alex Newell started performing.

Despite being two extraordinary singers in their own right, both Astin and Newell were completely out of sync and seemed like they were singing in two different tones which fans were quick to notice.

The stars of NBC's upcoming holiday movie 'Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist' were also both out of tune at multiple points during the performance, leading many fans to point out that it was nothing short of a "mess".

A particularly disappointed fan tweeted, "For the record, I love Skylar Astin, but that was not a crowning moment for him. Or NBC. Or New York. Or music. Or humanity. #NBC #RockefellerCenter"

We certainly cannot blame them for one of the weakest performances of the night, especially considering the night saw the likes of Legend and the cast of 'Mean Girls' killing it.

The most standout performance of the night, however, was probably the duet by broadway legends Menzel and Porter, who looked adorable in their wintery best. Perfection throughout, they coupled their act with cute back and forths and some commentary on the New York weather, and we ate up every bit of it.

The performances precede the historic lighting of the giant Christmas tree on December 4, 2019, which will remain on display until January 17, 2020.

Overall, fans of the annual event seem happy with the night of songs and dance, especially the performance of Bon Jovi, whose appearance had seemed unlikely for a while.
