Christina Applegate spotted with swanky cane as she attends Critics' Choice Awards after MS diagnosis
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Christina Applegate made her debut appearance at an awards ceremony, after opening up about her multiple sclerosis diagnosis (MS). The 51-year-old actress, who skipped the red carpet, was spotted backstage at the 2023 Critics' Choice Awards on January 15 in Los Angeles at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel.
The celebrity, who recently admitted that MS caused a 40-pound weight gain and a loss in her mobility, was spotted supporting herself with a silver cane and was accompanied by her 11-year-old daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble. Christina was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance as Jen Harding in the Netflix series 'Dead to Me', but Jean Smart from HBO's 'Hacks' won the award.

For the occasion, the 'Married... with Children' star went for a polished look, choosing a black suit and tall black boots. She completed her ensemble with a pearl bracelet, a heavy silver necklace with a moon design, and a black face mask that was lowered to her neck for photographs. The actress wore her blonde hair parted down the center and falling loosely over her shoulders. She had crimson lipstick on and a hint of blush on her cheekbones for glam.
Sadie, her daughter, kept a low profile while donning a black hat over her blonde hair and a face mask. She chose to dress professionally, choosing a pinstriped suit, just like her mother.

Christina was spotted mingling inside the lavish event with her friend Julia Roberts, 55. The women gave each other a warm embrace as they smiled at the cameras. Julia sparkled In a black gown with gold sequin accents.
Applegate earlier shared her anxiety ahead of attending the event on Twitter on January 12. She wrote, "So this Sunday will be the first awards show I have been to since 2019. And the first since MS. NERVOUS! But grateful to the @CriticsChoice for including me." In the series 'Dead To Me', she plays Jen Harding, a realtor who bonds with Judy at a grief counseling session with Linda Cardellini after Judy's husband is killed in a hit-and-run accident.

Applegate was supported by her fellow actors in Hollywood. “You got this. Don’t be nervous. Everyone is cheering you on!!!” tweeted actor Damon Gonzalez. “Can’t wait to say hello on Sunday!” replied creator, producer, and Critics’ Choice board member Shawn Edwards.
Applegate appeared as a guest on 'The Kelly Clarkson Show' in December 2022 where she made a joke in response to a question about what it's like to have MS. She said, "Can I say it sucked b***s?" The Netflix celebrity also disclosed information about her health. "There's four different kinds of MS so not everyone is the same,” she continued. “Everyone's symptoms are different, everyone's experience with it is different. Shooting the show was the hardest thing I'd ever done in my life because I was diagnosed during shooting. I didn't know what was happening to me."
The star said she "couldn't walk" and had to "use a wheelchair to get me to set."
"I was freaking out until someone was like 'You need an MRI.' And then, I found out on a Monday after work that I had MS, you know, a disease that I am going to have for the rest of my life," Applegate recalled.
