Contrary to reports, Chris Rock did NOT talk to Will Smith after being slapped at the Oscars 2022
Chris Rock is yet to speak to Will Smith after being struck by the actor live onstage at the Oscars on Sunday night, March 27. Although some reports claimed that the pair had sorted out their differences, insiders now say that it is not the case and there has been no communication between the two men. Insiders also claim that Rock was not aware that Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia after he made a joke about her looking like Demi Moore in the 1997 film 'G.I. Jane.'
Shortly after the Oscars confrontation, Diddy took to the stage to present a special tribute to 'The Godfather' in honor of its 50th anniversary. He said, "I did not know that this year was going to be the most exciting Oscars ever. OK. Will and Chris, we’re going to solve that like family at the Gold party. But right now, we’re moving on with love. Everybody make some noise!." Diddy later told a media outlet at a Vanity Fair party, "That’s not a problem. That’s over. I can confirm that. It’s all love. They’re brothers."

TMZ reported that there has been no communication between Smith and Rock after the Oscars incident. A close friend of Rock told the outlet, the comedian went straight back to his dressing room after the incident and left the building, which was always his plan for the evening. The insider added that Rock didn't know Jada suffers from alopecia and that he "doesn't have a mean bone in his body." As per the report, Rock is said to have been left "shaken and bewildered" by Smith's smack but dusted himself off to attend Madonna's manager Guy Oseary's famous Oscars After Party in LA.
According to PageSix, Rock appeared "unfazed" at his best friend's after-party. An insider told the outlet, "You wouldn't really know anything had happened. He was talking about it, just saying it was crazy, but it didn't seem to be bothering him at all." As per PageSix, Rock's pals rallied around him to make sure "things didn’t get weird" if Smith also showed up at the party. An insider also claimed that Rock and Smith had not reconciled by the time Diddy made that comment.
Meanwhile, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences launched a formal review of the incident on Monday, March 28. A spokesperson for the organization said, "The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night's show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law."
As of now, Will Smith apologized for his actions during the show when he returned to the stage to accept the Best Actor award for his role in the film 'King Richard'. Smith said, "I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees." The 'Aladdin' actor made a public apology to the comedian on Instagram. He wrote, "I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be."
He further said, "Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable." Smith added, "Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally." Chris Rock hasn't commented on the issue and both men are yet to settle the Oscars fiasco.
