Did Jada Pinkett tell Will Smith to slap Chris Rock? Actor was laughing till wife rolled her eyes

The 'Set It Off' actress, unimpressed by Chris Rock's jibe towards her hairstyle, rolled her eyes before the comedian laughed off the swipe

Jada Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes before Will Smith stormed onto the stage to smack Chris Rock after the comedian joked about he "can't wait for GI Jane 2", mocking 'The Nutty Professor' actress' hairstyle. It is unclear if Rock was aware of Jada's history with alopecia before making the joke at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 27. 

Pointing at Jada Pinkett Smith, Rock quipped, "Jada I love you. GI Jane 2... can't wait to see it." The joke was met with laughter, with even Will appearing to sport a smile. The 'Set It Off' actress, however, unimpressed by Rock's jibe, rolled her eyes before the comedian laughed off the swipe adding, "That was a nice one." Will Smith, then stormed onto the stage and slapped Rock with an open right hand, as the comedian exclaimed, "Wow, Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me." Smith, visibly emotional then, walked back to his seat and shouted, "Keep my wife's name out of your f**king mouth."

Meanwhile, several social media users speculated if Jada Pinkett Smith is the one who prompted Smith to storm the stage to smack the comedian. One wrote, "Don’t tell me nobody noticed that Will Smith was laughing at the joke too up until Jada rolled her eyes and showed her disapproval." Another added, "I knew from the way Jada rolled her eyes the joke had gone left…but I ain’t expect NONE of that shit afterwards."

A third wrote, "What disturbs me is that Smith laughed right along with Chris Rock at his joke. Jada rolled her eyes and then it all hit the fan. Smith’s first reaction wasn’t anger. What changed?"

A fourth added, "The way Jada rolled her eyes and that look on her face? Yeah they been fed up with Chris for a while." A fifth wrote, "The length simps go to impress their women is unparalleled! Will Smith was happy with the joke until Jada rolled her eyes. He realized that he had to show her how much a man he is." 

The couple's relationship has come under scrutiny in recent months and caused the actor to insist that there "never has been infidelity" despite Jada admitting in 2020 that she had an "entanglement" with 29-year-old singer August Alsina. Smith said, "There's never been infidelity in our marriage. Jada and I talk about everything, and we have never surprised one another with anything ever."
