The Grammy winner's 15th studio album will include covers of the Mariah Carey’s classic 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' and David Berman's 'Snow Is Falling in Manhattan'

Grammy award-winning Canadian musician Chilly Gonzales is all set to gift his fans an early Christmas gift with his newly-announced 15th full-length project in the form of ‘A very chilly christmas.’ The 48-year-old musician shared the big news via his official Twitter account paired with a video snippet and simply mentioning that he is releasing the new album along with the release date.  

‘A very chilly christmas’ is a follow-up to his 2018 project ‘Solo Piano III,’ which was the last part in the ‘Solo Piano’ series.  According to Pitchfork, the new album will include covers of Mariah Carey’s classic ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ and David Berman’s ‘Snow Is Falling in Manhattan,’ as well as standards like ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Auld Lang Syne.’ ‘The Banister Bough’ featuring Feist is the sole original track in the album.

Release date

Chilly Gonzales’ ‘A very chilly christmas’ arrives on November 13, 2020, via Gentle Threat. The new album is also up for pre-order here.

Concept

Shedding some light on the brand new project, Chilly Gonzales, whose real name is Jason Charles Beck, said in an official statement, “Christmas is a time of very mixed intense emotion for me, and the existing canon often sounds like a forced smile. Christmas is a typical time for superficial happiness, but also a time for reflection and mourning the sad events throughout the year. The songs of ‘A very chilly christmas’ make room for a more authentic interpretation of this very peculiar 2020 holiday season.”

From feudal oldies to newer holiday pop canon, ‘A very chilly christmas’ surveys a broad scope of seasonal repertoire and sentiment. There is grandeur and solemnity, there’s austerity and merriment, an original featuring Feist and covers featuring Jarvis Cocker. And, of course, there’s Mariah Carey. As a whole, the album’s gift is the space it creates for quieter moments amid the flurry and noise of the season, as described by the singer’s official website.
