'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' Part 4 Review: Finale seals Eldritch terrors fate but tarnishes story’s legacy

If done better, Part 4 could have been the best of the series. But alas, we have to deal with the fact that the star of the story now lives in Sweet Hereafter forever

Spoilers for 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina'

The final part of Netflix's 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' brings disappointment in more ways than one. Besides the fact that many expected much more from the season, we're surprised that the ending of the show had to call for the death of Sabrina Edwina Diana Spellman and Morningstar.

Fighting the Eldritch terrors brought the plotline to its climax in the final part of the much-loved series, but the ending was not only uncalled for but doesn't sit well with the essence of what Sabrina's story should have been. Not to mention, it also seemed as though the series was romanticizing death quite a bit, especially when Nicholas "Nick" Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood) kills himself to be with Sabrina in Sweet Hereafter after she sacrifices herself for the life of everyone else.

Of course, there were moments that were to be enjoyed such as Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea reprise their roles as Aunt Zelda and Aunt Hilda, and Lucifer Morningstar (Luke Cook) and Father Faustus Blackwood (Richard Coyle) finally getting the deaths they deserve. Needless to say, there had to have been a better way to end the series instead of killing the star of it.

Since the final part of the series has been much anticipated, fans of the coven will be able to say goodbye to most of their favorite characters in a good light. Besides the fact that the Eldritch terrors especially the Void is now a thing of the past thanks to Sabrina, we have to say that Prudence Night (Tati Gabrielle) killing her father Faustus Blackwood and Lilith (Michelle Gomez) killing Lucifer was probably the most satisfying deaths in the season.

Although considering the fact that Sabrina and her friends are highschool students, glorifying the idea of death to be with a loved one forever, shouldn't be chosen as entertainment. Nick's relationship with Sabrina has been bumpy, to say the least, and while some may miss her with Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch), we're glad Harvey didn't have to suffer a death since he chose to be with Rosalind Walker (Jaz Sinclair).

We do have to say though that the representation and inclusivity from characters to interracial relationships and LGBTQIA+ awareness was still something we as fans still appreciate. Although, we were hoping for an alternative ending considering it almost made no sense to kill the protagonist of the series to stop the Eldritch terrors.

Not that we wanted a happy cliche ending, but the fact that both Sabrina Spellman and Sabrina Morningstar had to die, just so the rest of the coven lived made no sense considering she was the heart of the coven. Sabrina, as known from the comics and the original series 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch', is the heart of the Spellman family and granted that the series was ending, but Sabrina's story will always live on.

Not to mention, we're sure in the future, another rendition of her story will pop up which would now seem ridiculous since she was offed so half-heartedly in the series. Either way, for fans of the comics and the original series, watching the season finale was heartbreaking.

Part 3 and Part 4 of the series, we consider to be lukewarm, the story seemed to be too scripted and scenes and plots were sprinkled with little grace. So while we dwell on Sabrina's death, we have to say that if done better, Part 4 could have been the best of the series. But alas, we have to deal with the fact that the star of the story now lives in Sweet Hereafter forever.

'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' Part 4 is now available to stream on Netflix.
