'Chicago' Franchise: Promo teases Brett in danger, Atwater's job on the line and April fighting for patients

With less than a week to go for the 'Chicago' franchise to return, NBC has gifted viewers with a new promo that teases what the new seasons will be about. On November 11, the ninth season of 'Chicago Fire', the eighth season of 'Chicago PD' and the sixth season of 'Chicago Med' will all premiere. All three shows had to end their previous seasons prematurely due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Of course, when the shows return, many things are set to change. Of all the shows, it was only 'Chicago PD' that probably felt like it ended with a season finale-like cliffhanger. When Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) chose to speak up about a fellow officer's racial profiling of a Black man -- that then led to a shootout in which the officer was killed --, the Intelligence Unit's detective was targeted by the officer's friends and family because they believed Atwater tarnished his reputation. It looks like the intimidation of Atwater -- which we saw briefly in the Season 7 finale -- is set to continue in the next season, as the late officer's family gun for Atwater's badge for what he did.

Meanwhile, in 'Chicago Fire', the one thing most viewers are waiting for is to know whether paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and firefighter Captain Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) of Firehouse 51 will finally get over their apprehensions and just tell each other that they like them. Unfortunately, it looks like Brett is going to have to deal with something else before any of that can happen. For one, Brett is going to have a new paramedic partner. Gianna Mackey (Adriyan Rae) replaces Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) who announced at the end of the last season that she was headed to med school. It also looks like Mackey and Brett are going to have a hell of an opportunity to bond -- the promo shows an unidentified man pointing a cocked gun at Brett's head when she and Mackey attend to an emergency case. Perhaps the seriousness of the situation may also lead Casey to realize that he needs to fess up to Brett about his feelings sooner rather than later.

While anticipation for all 'Chicago' shows is equally high, we are especially curious about 'Chicago Med', which will join TV's other medical dramas like 'The Good Doctor' and 'Grey's Anatomy in reflecting the Covid-19 pandemic. We know that Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) will be heading the Covid-19 response unit in the hospital seeing as he is their resident infectious diseases expert. He will be closely working with Nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta). Now, Ethan and April have a lot to work out on their own -- their relationship went through way too much in the previous season. April's humanity is what clearly shines through in the promo -- she insists on being by a patient's side because he is alone, and we are sure Ethan is just as touched as we are.

'Chicago Med', 'Chicago Fire', and 'Chicago PD' return with new episodes to NBC on Wednesday, November 11, at 8/7c. Watch the promo for the new seasons below:
