'Chicago' crossover: Will Sean Roman and Kim Burgess reconnect and find their way back to each other?

Next week, the much-awaited crossover between 'Chicago PD' and 'Chicago Fire' will take place. Unfortunately, 'Chicago Med' will not be a part of the second crossover this season. The episodes are special for another reason: Brian Geraghty, who plays cop Sean Roman, will be returning to the 'Chicago' universe after about four years.
To recall, Sean was a patrol officer who is partnered with Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) when she too was a beat cop. Though they did not get along well initially, they grow closer. In Season 3, after Kim's relationship with Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) fails, she starts going out with Sean, albeit discreetly since it's against the rules for partners to date. Theirs was a good relationship -- they only broke up because of logistics issues, technically.
After Sean was involved in an accident, he was left with nerve damage to his right arm. This meant that he was not allowed to be an active police officer anymore and had to be satisfied with a desk job.
Of course, Sean did not want this and decided to move. While Sean asked Kim to think about moving with him, they mutually agreed that it would be best if Kim stayed in Chicago as Sean moved to San Diego.
Fans might have expected Kim to get back with Adam after Sean left -- since most blamed Sean for the "Burzek" breakup as he repeatedly planted doubts in Kim's head. But that has not happened.

While Kim and Adam temporarily got together and she got pregnant, the two decided they were better off as friends. That story ended in an unfortunate way when Kim -- despite being assigned desk duty -- was brutally beaten up by a criminal as she tried to help a sex-trafficking victim. Kim lost her baby and she does not look like she is done processing her grief.
When Sean returns, he will team up with Lt. Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) from 'Chicago Fire' to solve a series of teen opioid overdoses. But there is something that Sean has not told Severide. Sean's sister is missing and it is related to the case of opioid overdoses.
In the 'Chicago PD' part of the crossover, the investigation turns into a homicide case when the dealer responsible turns up dead. We will presumably see Sean working with Kim in this part.
We don't blame Adam, but he has not necessarily been able to have a proper conversation with Kim about their loss. When Sean comes in, we could see him reconnecting with Kim and offering her the much-needed support she seeks -- and perhaps with Sean, who is outside of the tragic event, she could process the grief better.
Will this, then, lead to Sean and Kim deciding to give their relationship a second shot? It's unlikely since Brian Geraghty is not slated to stick around or reprise his role for more than the two crossover episodes. It could perhaps catalyze into Adam and Kim giving their relationship another shot.
We just have to wait and see.
'Chicago Fire' and 'Chicago PD' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights at 9/8c and 10/9c respectively. The crossover will air on February 26th.
