'Chicago Med' Season 6: Why is Episode 4 not airing? Here's when the NBC drama returns with new episodes
Fans of 'Chicago Med' would be disappointed to learn that the NBC medical drama is already going on a short break following its return from winter break the previous week. That return itself was delayed because of a failed insurrection attempt at the US Capitol. Like 'Chicago Med', the other 'Chicago' shows, including 'Chicago Fire' and 'Chicago PD' will not be airing this week either.
The reason for the one-week break is because this Wednesday, January 20, saw Joe Biden being sworn in as the 46th President of the United States and Kamala Harris being sworn in as the 49th Vice President (the first woman and the first woman of color) of the country. Presumably, NBC's 'Chicago' shows are not airing this week as Inauguration Day coverage continues and follows Biden over his first day of presidency.
When will 'Chicago Med' Season 6 Episode 4 air?
'Chicago Med' is going on a short break, thankfully, and will return with new episodes to NBC on Wednesday, January 27, at 8/7c. Following this episode, we do not expect another break until after the fifth episode, however, the schedule after that has not been determined yet. There have been many production delays due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and we expect that all three 'Chicago' shows will have their current seasons cut even shorter.
What to expect from Episode 4?
The synopsis for the next episode -- the fourth of Season 6 of 'Chicago Med' -- states: "Dr Marcel and Dr Manning lay everything on the line to assist a sick woman. Dr Halstead faces an uphill battle in getting participants involved in his clinical trial. Dr Choi clashes with a patient who demands absolute perfection of himself."
This shows that the courtship of Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) and Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) will continue, breaking the hearts of those still hoping for Natalie to get back with Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss). We even saw an awkward flirting scene between Crockett and Natalie in the previous episode, so we think it may just be a matter of time before the two make it official. What remains to be seen is how Will and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta), who kissed Crockett in the previous season, will react to the new potential relationship.
Will, of course, could be too busy to care, given that he is now heading a new clinical trial after he was snubbed from becoming the Chief of the Emergency Department (ED) which was given to Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) instead. As Will continues to take this new step in his career, we hope he remembers why he did not get the promotion to chief and that he gets his impulsive nature under control.
Ethan himself has a bit of control he needs to exercise over himself so that he will not let his aim of extreme perfection impede his job. So, when Ethan deals with a patient who has a similar composure, we hope he will learn his lesson too. Ultimately, Ethan has clashed with both Will and Crockett, which does not bode well for his future as chief, but we hope that those clashes were only temporary.
