Spoilers for 'Chicago Fire' Season 8 Episode 19 'Light Things Up'

In this week's episode of 'Chicago Fire', the firefighters and paramedics of Firehouse 51 are locked inside when a protestor chains himself to the engine and the ambulance to bring attention to the closure of another firehouse, which led to an increased rate in response times in a less affluent neighborhood.

However, some last-minute thinking by firefighter candidates Darren Ritter and Blake Gallo led to a happy ending for all. They uploaded a video on Instagram featuring Firehouse 51 treating the protestor who had to have an emergency fasciotomy. With the video, they promoted the message of unity. This led to the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) making another decision which meant Firehouse 87 would be opened again.

While this was going on, Sylvie Brett was going through her own troubles in addition to mourning her birth mother, Julie, who died in childbirth in the last episode. Scott, Julie's husband comes to Sylvie and asks her to take their daughter because he did not think he could take care of her.

Throughout the episode, Sylvie leaned on Matthew Casey for support and much to Brettsey fans' delight, they even shared many cool and intimate moments. Brett then tells Scott that he needs to be there for his daughter so that she will get to know her mother through him and he listens to her.

Fans were hurting for Brett but loved the Brett and Casey moments. One fan tweeted, "YAY FINALLY A CASEY AND BRETT MOMENT," while another wrote, "Group hug for Sylvie Brett RIGHT NOW." A fan wrote, "This is such a good show. Each episode gets better and better. Brett and Casey need to be together."

A fan wrote, "That Brett and Casey scene had me in tears. I love them so much." Fans even hoped that Brett and Casey would end up raising her baby sister together, with one saying, "Sylvie is gonna take the baby and Casey is gonna help and they are gonna fall in love and raise the baby together so Casey can be a dad again. I'M HERE FOR IT."

However, some fans felt the Brettsey moments were forced, with one tweeting, "I will never not see Brett and Casey as brother and sister #ChicagoFire." Another wrote, "I’m so sorry but it keeps getting on my nerves how all of a sudden brett has the confidence to go and hide in Casey's office."

A viewer tweeted, "My heart is breaking for brett but it still makes no sense to me that she opens up to Casey of all people... Stella and Foster are right there and she’s always been closer to them #ChicagoFire." Another wrote, "I feel so bad for brett but they’re shoving brettsey down our throats #chicagofire."

'Chicago Fire' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights at 9/8c. The final episode of the current shortened season will air next week, on April 15.
