In the first episode back after the winter break for Season 8 of 'Chicago Fire', Lt Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) does not just survive the cliffhanger from the fall finale, but also ends up leaving the Office of Fire Investigations (OFI) and going back to Firehouse 51.

However, not everyone was happy to see Severide leave the OFI. His colleague at the OFI, Lt Wendy Seager (Andy Allo) seemed quite disappointed that he would not be working with her anymore. And so, through the rest of the episode, she tries to bring other cases to him in his spare time.

Showrunner Derek Haas had confirmed to TV Guide that Seager was motivated by something beyond being professional. It is likely that she has romantic feelings for Severide, and despite knowing that he is involved with his colleague at 51, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Seager seems adamant to continue working with him.

However, fans are excited that Severide will be back at 51 sooner than they expected. One fan wrote, "Loved tonight's episode especially knowing Severide is back at 51. #ChicagoFire." Another tweeted, "Severide is back on Squad 3, Brett and Foster made up and we got the Jaws back. All is right in the world. See you tomorrow. #ChicagoFire."

Fans are also happy that Severide rejected Seager's offer to work with her on more cases, with one fan writing, "Severide just rejected Seager. Finally, Seager has gone away let’s hope she doesn’t try messing up Stellaride another day. #ChicagoFire."

While Severide did put Stella first in the matter, fans should not rest easy yet. Haas also told TV Guide that it is likely that Lt. Wendy Seager will be back. We don't know when that might be or whether that might be in something other than in a professional capacity, though Kidd should probably stay watchful of Seager's eagerness.

'Chicago Fire' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
