Sporting a blue shirt and a tie, Holland in this photo looks a lot more like the “friendly neighborhood Spiderman” audiences are used to. He looks nervous and has a full head of hair

In November last year, Tom Holland had shared a photo on Instagram captioned, “No alarms. I’m a wanted man. They’ll kill me...” The photo showed Holland in a completely new avatar, carrying a very un-Tom Holland persona. He was sporting a crew cut. He was standing inside a bank called “S***ty Bank”. He looked like he was on edge. And, he was holding a gun. This was largely considered to be the first look from the upcoming Russo Brothers movie ‘Cherry’.

Anthony and Joseph Russo, best known for directing ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’, have now released another photo from what looks like the editing room of ‘Cherry’. On their official Twitter account, the brothers posted a photo of Tom Holland from the film and captioned it, “#Cherry Edit…”.

Holland in this photo, however, looks starkly different from what he looked like in the aforementioned Instagram photo. Sporting a blue shirt and a tie, Holland in this photo looks a lot more like the “friendly neighborhood Spiderman” audiences are used to. He looks nervous and has a full head of hair.

But the changes in Holland’s looks are consistent with the film’s plot. Based on a novel of the same name by U.S. Army veteran Nico Walker, ‘Cherry’ chronicles the life of a young man who drops out of college to enlist in the Army. He goes on to fight in the War in Iraq and returns home suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. The novel follows his decline into opioid addiction and bank robbery. The story is based on author Walker’s own life as an army veteran and his struggle with heroin addiction.

Presumably, Holland in the Russo Brothers edit table photo, and Holland in the gun-wielding photo bookend the spectrum of changes in the protagonist’s life. The former seems to be from when he was a college student, waiting to get enlisted. The latter is obviously a post-war wreck who suffers from PTSD and addiction and is there to rob a bank.

‘Cherry’ will definitely mark a new chapter in Holland’s career, even if he is working with directors he has collaborated very frequently with in the past. While filming for ‘Cherry’ is over and it is currently in post-production, no official release date for the film has been announced yet.
