Teen rapper C Blu, who got arrested after reportedly shooting a New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer during a fight on January 18, cannot be prosecuted in the gun and assault case, as revealed by the Law Department on Friday, May 20. The charges against the 16-year-old rapper from Bronx have now been dropped.

C Blu, whose real name is Camrin Williams, was facing charges after he allegedly shot the 27-year-old cop Kaseem Pennant in the leg in January while he was on probation for a prior gun offense. According to the New York Post, Bronx Supreme Court Justice Denis Boyle set up the rapper’s bond at $250,000, in February. C Blu reportedly posted the bond with an advance he received after cracking a deal with Interscope Records.

Charges dropped against rapper C Blu

According to the New York Post, the Law Department said in a statement, “Just because the city cannot prosecute doesn’t mean this individual should have been carrying an illegal weapon — a weapon which contributed to both him and an officer being shot.” The statement further read, “Pursuant to Family Court Law, the case is now sealed and we are unable to say more about the matter.”

C Blu's case had infuriated Mayor Eric Adams as he cited the incident as an example of the dangers cops face as they seek to reduce gun violence in the city. “Mayor Adams and the NYPD demonized my client in the press and accused him of shooting a police officer,” said Williams’ attorney Dawn Florio. “My client is thrilled that ... the matter will be closed and sealed, that all charges have been dropped.“It has always been our position that it was the police, not my client, who caused that gun to go off, shooting my client and grazing an officer.”

This is how C Blu caught a break. Bronx Supreme Court Judge Naita Semaj said video shows Williams had actually complied with all police orders.“He literally does everything you tell your child to do when they’re approached by cops. He literally kept his hands up. He literally tried to record to make sure there was proof. He answered questions he had no obligation to answer,” Semaj said. She also called out police for the bust, saying that an arresting officer’s testimony in court was “incredible and unreliable.”

NYPD Police Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch did not seem pleased with the charges getting dropped as he dubbed the decision as “absurd.” Shedding light on the same, he asserted, “This absurd decision should outrage every New Yorker who wants to get illegal guns off our streets. There is no dispute that this individual was caught carrying an illegal gun for the second time” adding, “If perps like this face absolutely no consequences, even after shooting a cop, we have to ask: why bother sending us out to get the guns at all?”
