‘It’s the foundation’
In July 2018, Todd opened up about his last conversation with Carrie, with whom he shared a good bond. He reminisced to Fox News about the ‘Shampoo’ actress, Carrie’s birthday party, “We were talking about traveling together and doing other things, and she was still a little angry at me because, A, the party I had to sort of force down her throat, but my mom wanted it, and B, there was always different tension between the family of mom, particularly myself, and Carrie, as it related to her drug use at the time.”
However, the blood relationship won over every feud as he continued further, “… But when Carrie and I got face-to-face, there was no way to have any of that. It just melted away, because the blood, the relationship between brother and sister, the bond, is so deep… She broke down and said ‘… We have to be OK with each other. It’s the foundation.’”
In June 2018, he talked about the sibling rivalry they had for their mother’s love. Todd said, “Carrie perceived me as a bit of threat because Debbie and I had a quiet, peaceful, unspoken love that did not require constant attention,” before adding“Carrie was more insecure about her relationship. I didn’t mind being Debbie Reynolds’ son, but Carrie was always trying to get out from under Debbie Reynolds’ shadow,” as reported by Variety.
