Global K-pop sensation BTS has been awarded the 2020 Music Innovators in the 10th annual Innovator Awards hosted by Wall Street Journal marking the group’s innovatory attempt at breaking the cultural barrier and making music truly universal.

David Chang, 2018 Food Innovator award winner of WSH, said, “It is beyond exciting to see BTS as like the biggest band of the world and just transcends all cultural barriers. I’ll never forget the time that they were in the Stephen Colbert show, performing in the black and white show, paying homage to the Beatles. People need to accept that they are sort of like the Beatles as the hundreds and millions of people that love BTS.”

While introducing the group, TV show host James Corden stated, “I’ll never forget the first time BTS came and performed here, I don’t think any of us, involved in working for the show, in front of camera, off-camera knew how incredible they are or how passionate their fanbase are and every time they have come by our show, I have been blown away by their professionalism, their nature and their incredible talent.”

The tenth year of the WSJ Award happened virtually as the K-pop group accepted the award with a short speech, sharing what it means to be called "2020 Music Innovator". 'Daechwita's Agust D aka Yoongi aka Suga said for him, “Innovation means, never stopping.” The rapper said, “I think the most important thing is that you are always changing. Never being comfortable, always evolving.”

The group also reacted to the comparison of them with the Beatles as they are the first group who made history by earning three number one albums in less than a year since the Beatles. Group leader Namjoon aka RM said,  “We have never ever been like the Beatles. We are just like seven normal kids who love music and performances, have a dream to give home and love and positive energy and inspiration to people in the world.”

Jin, the oldest member of the group and a powerful vocalist humbly admitted, “Wow, Beatles! To even be compared to the legendary group is a great honour.”

BTS have been a crucial voice this year in spreading the voice of utmost optimism and comforting people. The group brought out a single ‘Dynamite’ in August to spread the message of hope which in turn got them a number one in Billboard Hot 100 chart while also breaking multiple YouTube records including the highest views in 24 hours with a whopping 101 million.

The group’s major vocalist Taehyung aka V says, “People around the world are going through difficult times. But the harder life gets, the more we have to brighten up and use these moments as ammunition to load up our optimism and drive.”

The youngest member of the group and the main vocalist Jungkook shares, “The fact that we can send such a crucial message to the listeners is a huge honor.” BTS are worldly regarded for their 2018 “Love Yourself, Speak Yourself” UN speech where they came out and urged their listeners to embrace individuality and say no to discrimination.

Jhope, the group’s main dancer and rapper believes that the message not only helped their listeners but themselves as well. He stated,  “Love Yourself, speak yourself is very special to me too. The BTS team has put out the message and shouted it out for the listeners. But it had, in fact, a large influence on us as well.”

Jimin, another major vocalist for the septet shares the success behind their work has been the chemistry that they share with each other and the fans. Jimin says, “The members themselves make the BTS special. The relationship between the members, the relationship between us and our fans”

BTS Army echo millions of fans when they say how meaningful BTS and their messages have been in healing people this year. One fan says, “Believe me, I stan BTS everyday but I still get goosebumps everytime I'm being reminded of how big they are in the music industry. These men convey meaningful messages through their songs and inspire a lot of people. #BTSMusicInnovator”

Another fan says, “The difference between BTS and many others is BTS has been awarded and honored for their greatness, innovation and artistry, in Korea, in the US, and Worldwide. They don’t need sensationalism to try and convince everyone they’re great
#BTSMusicInnovator @BTS_twt”

Another inspired tweet says, “congratulations @BTS_twt for receiving the 2020 music innovator award! we are so unbelievably proud of you for breaking the stereotypes and proving that dreams can come true when you put your heart to it #BTSMusicInnovator”

BTS are currently preparing for their latest comeback album ‘BE’ releasing on  November 20 where the group is said to be the most “BTSesque” yet. Army can’t wait to see BTS winning them all over again.
