What is an anthology album? BTS' 'Proof' has fans cheering 'legacy era'

BTS' comback with 'Proof' will have three new songs and will be released on June 10

BTS pretty much broke K-pop Twitter when they finally announced their next album after almost 2 years. Even the locals were surprised that while BTS was at its peak in 2021 breaking records and making history, they had only dropped two singles and a couple of collaborations. Well, it is time to bring back the global K-pop group’s full power as they are coming back with ‘Proof’, an anthology album.

On May 4, BTS finally released more details of their next comeback. They will be releasing ‘Proof’ which is said to be the best of the best of their extensive discography of 9 years. The boy group released a trailer of the ‘Proof’ logo where we first see the album title before it expands to display ‘We Are Bulletproof’. BTS’ label, BigHit shared that the album will have three CDs with tracks that the members wanted to use to tell their journey. We will also be getting three new tracks.

BTS announce release date for ‘Proof’

The pr-orders began on May 5 at 11 am KST (May 4 at 10 pm ET) while the anthology album is set to be released on June 10 at 1 pm KST (June 9 at 12 pm ET). BTS fans are excited as they hope that this is how we will get official releases for tracks that were only performed live or demo versions of past hits. One ARMY asked, “Is this how we get Ddaeng on Spotify?” Another wondered about Snoop Dogg’s collab, “We on ft. Snoop Dogg.” One ARMY flexed, “An anthology album….this legacy era sh*t fr.” 

'Genius'

Another fan tweeted, “An anthology album to celebrate their journey when bts are the only kpop group in history to remain complete for a whole decade oh i got shivers.” One fan was impressed, “I don’t think u guys understand what it means to have an anthology album like that means an artist would have to have a discography so extensive, so iconic, and so well-loved, that they could pick a whole ALBUMS WORTH of past songs and have it sell. and bts have THREE DISCS WORTH.”

Another ARMY shared why this comeback was genius, “And that's exactly why bts are genius for releasing an anthology album now at the level of fame theyre at among people who havent bothered to dig deeper.” One fan loved how pretty the album looked, “IT LOOKS SO PRESTIGE OSOXKAOSJZNSOA SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!” Another wrote, “Bighit was actually smart for this cause if you think about locals are most likely aware of bts's comeback, they'll listen to the album and do a little research and see that these tracks are from different albums and hence them being interested in the older music.”
