Popularly known by its Portuguese name 'Irmandade', 'Brotherhood' is an upcoming Brazilian crime drama web television series set in the city of São Paulo in the mid-90s. The eight-episode series follows the story of Cristina, who discovers that her estranged brother has been in prison and is a leader of a rising criminal faction. 

Release date

The Brazilian series is all set to premiere on October 25, 2019, on Netflix.

Plot

The series centers around Cristina (Naruna Costa), an honest and devoted lawyer who discovers that her brother Edson (Seu Jorge) is imprisoned and leads a criminal faction – known as 'Brotherhood'.

Forced by the cops, she soon becomes an informant and goes against her brother. But what will happen when she gets deeper into the murky secrets of the risky and dangerous mission? 

The summary reads: "An honest lawyer reaches a moral crossroads after the cops force her to inform on her incarcerated brother, the leader of a rising criminal faction. Cristina soon comes into contact with her darkest side and begins to question her own notions of justice."

Naruna Costa

Costa portrays the lead character of Cristina in the series. The actress is known for her roles in 'The Way He Looks' (2014), 'O Magnata' (2007) and 'Desert World of Black Souls' (2014).

Seu Jorge

Jorge Mário da Silva, known by his stage name Seu Jorge, plays Edson in the series. The actor is known for his stint as Knockout Ned in the 2002 film 'City of God' and as Pelé dos Santos in the 2004 film 'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou'. 

Other actors include Hermila Guedes as Darlene, Lee Taylor as Ivan, Danilo Grangheia as Andrade, Pedro Wagner as Carniça and Wesley Guimarães as Marcel.

Director/Writer

The Brazilian series has been created and directed by Pedro Morelli. He has been credited for TV series like 'Rua Augusta', 'City of Men', 'Contos do Edgar' and 'Sheep's Clothing'. Felipe Sant'Angelo is the general screenwriter for the show. The show has been produced by Andrea Barata Ribeiro and Bel Berlinck.

The official trailer for the series was released on September 19, 2019, and the 1.40-minute clip shows the dark world of the rising criminal faction.
