Brittney Griner set to release memoir in 2024 detailing her 10 months in Russian prison
PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Brittney Griner, a basketball champion who was arrested and convicted in Russia for possessing illegal drugs will be releasing her tell-all memoir in 2024. The news was released by the leading publishing house Alfred A Knopf on Tuesday, April 11. The press release confirmed, "Tumultuous events of 2022 that both reshaped her life and captured the world's attention" will be detailed by Griner, referring to her arrest at an airport near Moscow on February 2022.
The 32-year-old stayed in detainment for 10 months before a prison swap with Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. Griner in a statement said, the day she was arrested by Russian officials was "the beginning of an unfathomable period in my life" and now she feels ready to share her story with the world. The WNBA champ added, "Readers will hear my story and understand why I'm so thankful for the outpouring of support from people across the world. By writing this book, I also hope to raise awareness surrounding other Americans wrongfully detained abroad such as Paul Whelan, Evan Gershkovich, Emad Shargi, Airan Berry, Shahab Dalili, Luke Denman, Eyvin Hernandez, Majd Kamalmaz, Jerrel Kenemore, Kai Li, Siamak Namazi, Austin Tice, Mark Swidan and Morad Tahbaz."

Interestingly, this will be her second book with the publishing company, after she released her first, In ‘My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court,’ back in 2015. Grinder was recently interviewed by Wall Street Journal, where she talked and echoed her support for other Americans imprisoned in Russia. "Our hearts are filled with great concern for Evan Gershkovitch and his family since Evan's detainment in Russia," Griner later wrote on Instagram along with her wife Cherelle, reports People.
'Every American returned is a win for us all'
"We must do everything in our power to bring him and all Americans home. We are grateful for President Biden and his administration's deep commitment to rescuing Americans. We celebrate their recent successful efforts to bring home Jeff Woodke and Paul Rusesabagina," Griners continued before adding "Every American who is taken is ours to fight for and every American returned is a win for us all."
After spending ten months in prison, Griner arrived on American soil on December 9. According to ESPN, she has returned to the court, having secured a one-year, $165,100 contract with the Phoenix Mercury.
