Mike Lookinland turns 62: 'The Brady Bunch' star quit acting as entertainment industry is 'all a fake'
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH: Mike Lookinland turned 62 on December 19, Monday. After being cast for the role at age nine, the child actor played the youngest member of the family. He had to dye his sandy brown hair a dark color and straighten it so that he could resemble the other male characters. In order for Mike to match the other male characters in the series, his sandy brown curly hair had to be dyed a dark hue and straightened.
However, due to the studio lighting, the Mount Pleasant, Utah resident frequently experienced hair dye dripping down his face. Mike had an appearance in 'Little House on the Prairie' and was a part of multiple 'Brady Bunch' specials after the show. According to The Sun, before giving up his Hollywood career, he also appeared in movies like 'Towering Inferno'. The actor previously starred in a bandaid and paper towel commercial before landing his 'Brady Bunch' role.

As per a report by The Sydney Morning Herald, the actor recalled how simple it was to find work in 1968 if one had freckles and was red-haired. Mike described the experience of dyeing his hair for his role as Bobby as "weird" but "exciting." Most of the other attendees were adults working, he enjoyed spending time with the other kids, and they formed a close friendship. The former actor, who turned 62 in 2022, decided to abandon the Hollywood lifestyle in favor of something more meaningful.
Mike Lookinland Dedicated His Life to His Family
Mike and Kelly Wermuth were married in 1987 and they had two boys Scott Lookinland and Joe Lookinland, who were born in 1990 and 1993, respectively. Scott played the on-screen son of his father in the 2000 television movie 'Growing Up Brady'. Mike said that he was now managing a small business while speaking on 'The Today Show'. The former performer explained how his business produced architectural concrete, primarily for countertops and tables.
The actor revealed on 'Oprah: Where Are They Now?' that how difficult it was for him to lead a normal life after 'The Brady Bunch'. He added that he had only experienced childhood during his 20s and believed that stage was designed to occur when a person was a child because it was risky to go through it at age 26. Later, Mike also started consuming large amounts of alcohol and had to decide if he wanted to continue living with the addiction or not. He was married to his college sweetheart, 16 years sober, and leading a better life in 2019.
Having worked in film production for 20 years, Wermuth brought home 'How to Make Concrete Countertops' from the library. After learning that nothing in the entertainment industry was real, he quit his job to make concrete countertops. According to HuffPost, he then told his wife: "Your face, your clothes, what you say -- it's all a fake. I think I was drawn to something more real that I could do myself." Besides Mike, there were other 'Brady Bunch' stars who built successful lives after the show ended. While some of his co-stars continued to act, others unfortunately died.
What Happened to 'The Brady Bunch' Cast?
Despite Mike's success as a stand-up comedian, he was not the only 'The Brady Bunch' star to make a life for himself after the show ended. In addition to portraying Greg on 'The Brady Bunch', Barry Williams also appeared on shows like 'Full House' and 'That '70s Show', as well as 'Blending Christmas'. He also dated Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia on 'The Brady Bunch'.
The actor has been married three times, most recently in 2017, to Tina Mahina, with whom he has two children, Brandon Eric and Samantha Rose Williams. A McCormick book called 'Here's the Story' appeared on season 23 of 'Dancing with the Stars'. During this time, she married Michael Cummings, and they had a daughter, Natalie Michelle. Christopher Knight produced 'My Fair Brady', 'Chris & Adrianne Do Russia', and 'Truelove: The Film'.
The entrepreneur played Brian in 'Blending Christmas'. She also appeared in 'Murder, She Wrote', 'Bull', and a television adaptation of 'Little Women'. Cummings starred in the 2003 movie 'Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star' and in 'Blending Christmas', where he played Andrew. Susan Olsen also appeared in 'Blending Christmas' and in 'The Young and the Restless' in 2010. Florence Henderson, who starred as Carol in the show, died in 2016, and Robert Reed, who played Mike Brady, deceased in 1992. Ann B Davis, who played Alice Nelson, also died in 2014.
